20g or 50 trim
The price difference is the internal W/G u get with the EVO green. A custom turbine and comp wheels where the DSM Green is a hybrid of garret and mitsu parts not Custom made wheels from a single shop in Texas.
$1000 + shipping will convert your VIII turbo to an EvoGreen, aka:20G9LT, on which you should be able to make at least 400whp on 93 oct with the correct tune & supporting mods(any turbo will require the correct supporting mods), i just ordered mine w/ the HP actuator, ported, & install kit for 1200 shipped($300. core charge is refundable upon core receipt).
Fellahs. Greetings from Iraq! Like many of you, I'm juggling these two turbos around as well. I do have a 50 Trim waiting for installation sitting in my garage once I get back. It is the non-ballbearing type. I know. I know. There are both good and bad about it but for the price that it was sold to me by someone that I trust, I couldn't pass by. I haven't bought any of the supporting mods yet (turbo exhaust manifold, wastegate, etc.). I've been reading a lot about the RNR 50 Trims (yeah, that's the brand that I bought) both good and bad. In my opinion, it's not too late in the game for me to go the BR 20G-9 LT route. I've searched all around for spooling characteristics for the non-ballbearing 50 Trim but have come up empty. Can any of your brothers help me out and give me some nice information to read? If I'm too far out there and need to be rescued, by all means send me a life jacket!
We all know the 20G can't make the same power like the 50 trim. I currently running the 20G-LT and felt this turbo was a very good upgrade. I wanted something that was very similar to the stock set up but with more power up top. If you want more power then 450whp then you better go with a 50 trim. I don't think the 20G-LT will make more then 440-450whp on full race gas.
I have the fp evo green and it's great on pump and as far as race gas mr.birdie you done know what you're talking about because this turbo will def make 450 on race gas, want to bet? I'm puting down 400 on ONLY PUMP and 21 psi so at 28 psi I think I'll gain the 50whp you're talking about.

I would mail my OEM IX turbo in and let FP do the EvoGreen thing to it if the cost were maybe $600-$800, but not at a grand. Yeah it's plug and play and that's a huge bonus. I just think that grand might be better spent going towards a full 50 trim kit. It's a time tested and proven pump turbo in the DSM crowd. I don't think DB himself could argue that but then again I don't think he's ever claimed that this 20G-LT was designed to target the 50 trim crowd. I'm pretty sure that debate was given birth to on this forum by its members.
There's a mountain of 4G63 history supporting the 50 trim as the stronger snail. On the other hand we have a few threads and some videos showing what the 20G-LT can do against a 50 trim...a backfiring, misfiring, 50 trim sportin' Evo. Maybe in time that will change but I doubt it. Every time Buschur releases a new bolt-on turbo he and his proxies proclaim it to be the best thing ever. Don't believe me? Go back and dig up some old 20G VIII threads. Then dig up some 20G IX threads. All along the 50 trim kits have been putting down consistent numbers without any marketing or need to manufacture enthusiasm by their vendors. Everybody has the right to make a buck but can we all stop drinking the cool-aid for just a second and objectively analyze the numbers each of these respective turbos are capable of. You get what you pay for. Otherwise AMS would be selling 50 trim kits for $2k.
