Benefits of LICP

The LICP seems to be a mod that some do early, some do late (in the modding process).

I don't plan on going nuts, I'll have a modest MBC, TBE w/ O2, and custom tune on 93. What benefit, if any, do I stand to get from a LICP?

Does it just allow for a quicker spool up?

they say it can add 10-12whp but i dont know. I installed it first on my IX mr and it seemed like there is less lag and it feels a little quicker. was it worth the time and effort to take of the stock one? not really. i have buschur

its supposed to allow for quicker spool and some HP gains due to the loss of bends with the after market LICP, but i believe you need to get a tune after getting a LICP installed.

I noticed nothing except what I might have imagined in my mind. Very minimal IMO.

There is a Big difference in the Lower IC Pipe. My Friend has one and i don't other wise our mods are the same. He spools alot Faster than i do. When you push the throttle in his car it just amazing, an instantaneous spool almost. He has the AMS lower IC pipe. I don't know why I didn't get the IC pipe?

I would love to know from an engineering aspect HOW you could possibly spool up quicker.
It is completely obsurd.

Very true. It COULD make the car more responsive but NOT spool quicker. The only thing that can make a turbo car spool faster is a header, 02 housing, downpipe or tuning. Nothing on the cold outlet side of the turbo can make it spool faster.

Maybe you guys aren't seeing it.....if there is LESS resistance (ie large diameter piping, less bends, etc) then don't you think it would be of benefit no matter which side of the turbo it's on. If the compressor is also fighting a lower initial resistance or pressure as well as the turbine I think there could be some benefit.

Anyway I plan on testing several parts to see if they help/hurt spool. It gets old reading all these threads with absolutely no scientific data at all. I under stand the tuner shops don't really want to release all of their development data, so the end user is just left with speculation. If you see me selling something in the next few months it probably hurt spool/bottom end power.

So, less restriction on the cold side would not reduce stress on the hot side? I would think it could help with lag, but I'm not really sure.

I was installing my manifold and O2 this past Saturday and it was the first time I'd even inspected the IC piping on the Evo. I believe that the first peice of IC piping is 1.5" and the inlet to the IC itself is about 2".

I can definitely see potential if the LICP gets rid of all of the restriction in that pipe, but I think the flange that mounts to the turbo will still be a 1.5" pipe (just an assumption). If this is the case, the the pipe really won't reduce initial pressure against the cold side turbine. I think the biggest gain would probably be getting rid of pressure fluctuation by removing the 8" (or so) rubber elbow between the turbo and IC.

I believe the turbo outlet pipe is 2" not 1.5".
Just picked up silicon reducer elbow 2-2.5" and already have 2.5" J pipe for a homemade version. So why not.

You are probably right. I didn't measure it. I was just going by what I remembered.
