Also, I'll post up the same graph again, but this time with the air/fuel graph expanded to more clearly show differences. My guess is that we are both right: there ARE gains (you) but they aren't dramatic enough to justify the removal of the box (me).
You may not have seen any large differences due to your power levels being lower. If you aren't maxing it out such that it becomes a restriction, switching to a better flowing unit may not be as beneficial

I have been wondering this myself, I am getting rid of my ATP gt3076 kit for a green here this summer, my tuner Tym Switzer wants to use a stock box and a drop in filter. He says he runs a stock box on his car and loves it. I am going to bring in part of my setup and do a back to back stock vs my custom K and N style intake. Might be awhile though...... I just dont know what to belive!!!!!

I would love to know the 'devil in the details' as I was there, changed the filters, and did the tunes on that car.

Maybe you can ask Tym about when they pulled the stock box off the White Rabbit back in the day of its early hype and it put down over 400whp. It seemed to be a restriction then

I was referring to the MAF readings in particular.

No need to get angry with us, we're just illustrating the potential effect of variables that you didn't consider that affect the outcome of such tests. And yes, 10 days and 10 degrees difference (according to the weather records for Hayward, CA) do create issues of variability.

No one is questioning that a good intake isn't potentially worth something. What needs to be done when testing different air intake assemblies has been discussed ad nauseum, and it's a bit tedious if quality, reliable data is going to be generated. We didn't make it that way, we're just illustrating what and why for the benefit of those who may be misled into believing that bolting on an aftermarket intake is going to net them 25whp.
That is when dyno correction factors come in handy. If you correct both of Bryan's runs to STD, then the weather variables become constants and you will have a very good idea about the gains from the open element filter over the stock box.

It would be great if it worked so neatly. There wouldn't be any point in making back-to-back comparisons if it did.

But it doesn't, or at least not in my experience.

Well, maybe when I get all my parts together, I can swap out the stock box for the ARC intake I am going to put on.

It replaces the exact layout of the stock UICP but doesnt have the flex sections that will balloon when boosting. I am confused by your comment, perhaps you could enlighten us?

Bryan check PM's.

Well since he must have one he knows it necks down? Its actually larger than stock and there are no "neck down". The weld that is visible is where it gets bigger.
