FWIW Marc I have had my Evo Tuned by you and although it made serious WHP on the dyno on pump, it was kinda slow and dead up top on the street. I guess I learned that a Dynojet loads up a car a little less then the street does. Turns out it was knocking badly and after I bought a wide band and learned my Ecu Flash I saw it kocned on teh spoolup and pretty much WOT. I added back about 10% to get me a MUCH smoother tune and retooled my spoolup and WALA (thank you ECU Forums), about 5MPH in the 1/4 mile and amuch more usable powerband.

I guess I have to thank you for the tough love because I am learning to tune my car and can help others as well.
Are you kidding me? How much "knock" where you experiencing that was KILLING your car up top, and what is the crazy AFR you claim mark left you at to be lean? Curious...because, there could be other reasons why the car is dead up top...how about the whole boost thing?...where the stock turbo will never hold the boost it spikes to on PEAK torque....how about a bad tank of gas that could cause the car to switch ignition maps upstairs?...boost leak? Creep? Maybe the boost is spiking higher due weather change? OR better yet, what are you revving the car to? There is no powerband after 7k on a BPU evo 9..the car falls on its face after 7k, but im sure you knew that...and im POSITIVE your miracle tune didn't really do much, if anything at all... but if your claiming 5mph from your tune, rather then Marks, im game...tune my car for me...i want 128mph on pump!

Im am sorry for the bad news about the car, but everything happens for a reason. My motor blew back in mid November, and its being built now, but its going to be better then before. All you can do is live and learn. Take this as a life lesson, and do make the same mistake twice.

Man sorry to hear about all of the problems with your car. I would think that having it burnt to the ground would be a blessing. Good luck trying to get the aftermarket parts covered though. If you don't have extra coverage through your insurance for those parts, then I can't see them wanting to help you out. I had a bad experience with my last vehicle and modding. It has left such a bad taste in my mouth that I don't have much of a desire to mod my Evo. Good luck getting everything figured out.

Man, that totally sucks for you. Best wishes to you either way. From what you said (stolen jacket, etc), I'm thinking that you could have been simply jacked/vandalized. Did you file a police report (stolen jacket), and did you find out what the fire dept had to say about this thing?

Something doesn't seem right here....Or is it just bad luck.

Hmmm....
I would guess that a loose hot wire hit metal as the flatbed went over a bump causing a spark that ignited some of the juicy fluids that were sprayed all over the engine bay from the motor failure.

Either that or the tow truck driver flicked a lit cigarette or cigar out the window and it landed on the trailer....

Sorry about the troubles man.

removed all suggestions of insurance/warrenty fraud and all the "time to build a 2.3" posts.

these make no sense since the car burned to the ground.

Spend a little time in the ecuflash area of this site and it should answer most of your questions.

Simple fact is, if the ecu detects what it thinks is knock it will pull timing, 1 degree per 3 knock counts, this WILL kill the power if the knock count is high enough.

Not taking sides on the tune argument, just pointing out that if for any reason, the car was knocking on the street and not on the dyno, the power will be way off from what it dynoed at.

and BTW the ecu does not switch maps due to bad gas, it interpolates between the two sets based on the knock sum over time and uses a time decay to move back to the high octane maps as knock subsides.
