Question Rusty header

I have noticed several brand new Evos having a rusty looking exhaust header.

Is this because of the big hole in the hood letting rain in? Is there a solution to the rust? Alot of older Evos seen on Best Motoring also have very rusty looking engine parts....

its cause of the heat when it heats up it promotes oxidization

mine is rusting as well. i'm sure the hood vent letting rain in isn't helping. well...that is when the dealer left it parked in the rain it didn't help. she's garaged now and only comes out on nice weekends.

is there any preventive maintenance that can be done to prevent further rusting of the manifold? removal and repainting maybe...??

well if anything you can send it out to get jethot coated or get some type of high temperature coating on it...but i would stay away from anything like those high temperature paints...etc bc they are very cheap looking and they end up chipping away as the temperatures rise. the only thing is you dont want to coat the header so much that it changes the heat disapation to a negative result ofcourse. using the high temp pur coatings woudnt be a bad idea as well... someone has to try it out first.

It's not really a "header" it is really an exhaust maifold. I am planning on having my manifold JetHot coated for durability as well as performance. The biggest problem I have with doing this is that I can't be without my car. I need to find a used one to send off to be coated then swap them. Maybe if one of you guys buys an actual header you might be willing to sell me your stock manifold?

There are a few people with turbo back exhausts. One or two must have swapped the manifold out as well. Perhaps one would do a core exchange with you?

well right now im trying to fabricate an exhaust manifold...im working on the mounting plate then from that im going to start taking measurements for the tubing and so forth. i might have an extra manifold when im done...thats ofcourse if i get around to finish this project. i might just end up getting a manifold if it takes to long.
