POP goes the air hose
POP goes the air hose
Got done putting a cruise control on my new EVO, in the process I had to remove the air hose to the throttle body to get better access to the throttle area. Took the car out to see if the cruise functions, in my elation over a job well done, I hammered the car slightly (only has 250 miles, so I'm still keeping it sedately below 5000) and just as the push was building, POP! Sounded almost like a backfire through the intake, after which the car would barely idle, let alone run. Especially bad, since I was basically in the middle of no where, I had no cell, & there are no houses let alone pay phones in the area. I especially didn’t like the idea of LEAVING the car there. Naturally my 1st thought was I'd screwed something up in the installation, maybe the cables were jamming (though it wasn't over revving), something of the like. So I pulled over & opened the hood, the turbo had blown the air hose clear off the throttle body & the clamp has laying down on the xaxle. Obviously, the car doesn't run well with no air moving through the MAF sensor. Hooked the hose back up & after a short while the ECM sorted things out & it ran fine. I think I may double up on the clamps at each end of the air hose after this experience.

I am assuming that you discovered the VSS frequency since you road tested the cruise and reported it working. What did you discover to be the correct setting for the cruise contol unit?
Any pics of the installed controller? Is it a stalk that combines original functions of one of the stock stalks or a seperate unit?
I think you said you were going to install the Rostra unit. What is the PN for the model you used?

I'm using 4000 as the VSS freq, this at the suggestion of Rostra. I need to tweak the 12 programming switches a bit more to get the engagement/sensitivity right, but basically it does operate. I'll post some pictures & description of the installation sometime this week.
