For those that have been following the Aerospace Lubricant stuffs. I talked to them today and unfortunately the we need to stick with their heavier oil on the transmission (75W-90,Type 3 http://www.aerospacelubricants.com/f...%203%20tds.pdf This is because of the helical gear set-up within the transmission, if it were a dog box (straight cut gears) then we could run the <<0W in the transmission. Most knew this, I did not, which is why I ask questions that my seem common knowledge to some.

Now for the good news. I have put in the 10W-30 and a quart of the 20W-0 and the car runs great. Although, I have no information (i.e. dyno or oil temp gauge) other than sound, and no noticeable pressure loss at idle. As far as sound goes the motor is very quiet now, quieter than before. The only thing I hear are the injectors clicking away. Throttle response is marginally better. Seems as though the motor is not straining as hard when its pushed also, could be just me. Soon I will be using the 20W-0 and adding the 0W. I'll keep you posted as I gain information.

This is an interesting study that compared some of the top synthetic oils film strenght properties. Royal Purple appear to have done very well in this test.

In my German cars, the product formerly known as Lubro-Moly and Amsoil burned the least and I considered this "Greatest sustainability."
In my Japanese cars, I have seen the greatest performance with organic oil and Motul (I have not used Royal Purple but have heard many positive comments; M1 was disappointing and I have talked to a few race shops that said M1 has caused damage to the bottom end of many 4g63s).

I use Motul in my Evo for just about everything now after various tests and it seems to be the only brand that doesn't promote sludge in my rear diff, trans case or transmission (off topic, I know).

Therefore, for sake of simplicity, my loyalty and my cash goes to Motul (and that's the only thing I buy French!!!)

A lube poll that included failures/rebuilds/etc... would be great...

I realize that this test is valid http://http://www.animegame.com/cars/Oil%20Tests.pdf , but I don't understand how they only used between 2 and 8 lbs. Where most tests the load rating maxs out at around 3000 lbs for synthetics. It becomes even more interesting because it looks as though the presures are correct. i.e the Alisyn type 1 uses 4500lbs and 210,00 psi, which follows the (Falex EP test ASTM D-3233), and carries a scar legth of .65 mm.(ASTM D-4172)and that is on their <<0W.

Mobil 1 is a PAO Based Synthetic, NOT a Hydro-Cracked oil ! This rumor has come about from Mobil's addition of there Extended Drain Formula 5000, 7500 Etc..

By running a heavier weight oil, you are losing what you are paying for in performance parts, Horse Power and not gaining anything in protection.

Heavier weight oils, 10W-40, 15W-40, 5W-50, 20W-50 Etc... cost you HP for a few reasons. Your engines are designed with tight tolerances, not loose like Racing engines and therefore the oil pump has to push Maple Syrup through all these passages reducing HP and unless you have a dry sump system, your crankshaft is splashing through the heavier oil as well.

Especially with a True Synthetic, I would run a 0W-20, 0W-30, 5W-30 or a 10W-30 oil. These will give you the most bang for the buck.

AMSOIL has gone head to head with all the oils out there and still comes out on top in Dyno and ASTM Tests. Not these made up tests on TV with the One Armed Bandits showing improvements with certain additives and other junk that is detrimental to your oil and ultimately your engine.

There is an ASTM Test similar to the One Armed Bandit on TV.. It is a Gear Lube Test... EP additives have no place in engine oil.

Finally, someone who gets it!

Do you know if Amsoil is 100% PAO ? Do they use any esters? Not that I use Amsoil, but good info if you have it. I looked on their site, but could not tell if it was.

Customer: Is Mobil 1 synthetic (10w30) a group-3 or group-4(Polyalphaolefin) base stock?

Mobil1: Mobil1 motor oils are 100% syntheic, consumers should focus on the performance of the product not how or what Mobil or any other manufacturer utilizes to get there. I challenge you to find a product that will provide better overall performance and protection than Mobil1 motor oils in the real world, actual engines.

Customer: Switching to Motul
