Boost creep... how bad is it?

Well I noticed that after I got my cat back exhaust I have been able to hit around 1.5 bar instead of the usual 1.4. My friend says this is because of boost creep and that it's not really good for the engine, and it means my car is running a bit lean.

I know there are a ton of people running unflashed evos with cat-backs. Does everyone else experience this as well? Is it really bad for the car? I thought if I got a cat back I wouldn't have to flash just yet >.<

What's going on!?

boost creep is definitely not good...but hitting 1.5 over 1.4 isn't really bad creep if creep at all

you added a more freeflowing exhaust which in turn made it easier for your turbo to breathe thus increasing the boost output

creep is only an issue when it climbs from say 1.4 to 1.8 and your wastegate is fully open and you can't control it...a boost controller should help with this

usually boost creep leads to fuel cut as the engine uses this as a preventative measure to prevent future damage

I'm pretty sure that it doesn't make your car run any leaner in your condition though...the ecu continues to add fuel so you should be okay

if any of my information is inaccurate please let me know and I will edit it

That's good to hear. I was happy to hit 1.5

that's not a boost creep since your boost is staying at 1.5 bar.

yeah, creep continues to climb...you are just experience the effects of moe flow but it is perfectly safe

but a mbc/ebc would be a good mod to control peak boost/creep all together

it's also more common when it is cold out...because the air is denser

usually in the cold I experience boost spike...so I turn back my mbc a little to compensate for the denser air

+1.

i noticed the same thing after getting my TBE, so i got a boost controller instantly to control the peak...i peaked as high as 23psi after installing the TBE...
