Well any gasket that comes off probably wouldnt hurt to replace with new. Head studs are a breeze and the Cams could be a little tricky, but I am assuming since your attempting it you know whats up.
Good Luck

Turbo oil drain pipe flange gasket from dealership. in fact go to the parts dept at the dealership and tell him you'll be swapping the turbo. Have him pull up and print you out a sheet from the parts computer that shows in blow-up all the gaskets needed. They are all pretty cheap.

You may want a couple bolts/studs and nuts in case you happen to strip one that holds the turbine housing onto the exhaust manifold. A new turbo to manifold gasket and a turbine housing to O2 housing gasket is nice to have even though most people reuse their original ones as they are metal and are reusable in most cases.

I don't know whether or not the coolant line has a gasket or not. If you are going from an VIII turbo you'll have to decide whether or not you're gonna bend your existing lines to fit or buy new IX lines. All this stuff is available pretty cheap from your dealer's parts counter.

I used the 9 outlet pipe and water lines. This made it a very simple swap. The water lines use copper crush washers, which I've reused up to dozens of times with no leaks. They're cheap, but I couldn't be arsed to replace them every time I work on the turbo. The oil drain line gasket will take one for the team when you disassemble it, so it wouldn't hurt to have one of those. I had a stack of various gaskets from the DSM days and something I had fit. The manifold to turbo gasket can be resused, but replace it if it makes you feel better. IIRC, the green didn't come with the two studs in the turbine housing, so rather than *** around with transfering them over, I used two bolts I had in my stash (m10x1.25 IIRC). My LICP no longer fits quite right, but I was able to get it to work.

It's a pretty straight forward swap, IMO.

If you want part numbers, there is an existing thread with part numbers and typical prices for everything you could possibly need to do this job.

Definately get the Evo9 install kit from Buschur. Oh and start thinking how you are going to make the turbo outlet pipe fit to the lower intercooler pipe I had to cut a notch in my pipe, bend it and weld it up to make it fit. I think this is the only thing to worry about.

What Kjewer says about needing the compressor discharge tube from the IX is true. It's been posted that the AMS LICP can be made to work because it is not one single piece but is rather an assembly of two pipes with rubber hose connectors that can be clocked around to various positions.

The AMS LICP will work because it is not a one piece tube but a couple of tubes joined by rubber hose sections and thus it can be clocked to various positions.

Would the AMS LICP work with the Buschur discharge pipe?
