Thumbs up Finally test data for ebay intercooler vs stock

Ok everyone, this is not exactly a lab test but it will work.

A DC motor fan is used to give me a voltage reading. The faster it spins the more voltage out. A Pretty simple set up.

Both of the intercooler are placed exactly the same way.

The temperature probe are also placed exactly the same.

The stock IC has some oil coating on the walls. As you can see its shinny and yellowish.

The 17 row core Ebay intercooler.

Well Heres the test results:

The Hair blower produces 110'C max and an air flow voltage of 3.63v
Stock IC air flow: 2.39v
17 row Ebay IC air flow: 3.13v. Little loss compare to stock.

2min max heat flow test.
Stock IC starting with 13.6'C ends with 18.6'C and rising fast.
17 row Ebay IC starting with 13.1'C ends with 13.4'C and rising slow.

As you can see the ebay IC out performs the stock one. Hope this helps.

Well I didn't wast my money on that ebay item.

thats a great test. hopefully more people will be buying these intercooles so they can spend more money on more important things like a turbo upgrade.

now lets see how long it take before someone takes crap about these intecoolers and discounts your test

It's very cool of you to do this test, it clearly shows that an item doesn't have to be expensive to be effective.

Ha! Very smart and very innovative (take it from a guy who spends his life doing R&D). It gets the job done and gives a good indicator of the difference between the two. I'll be interested now to see if anyone with the necessary resources will want to carry on this test at higher pressures and temperatures to better match real conditions so that an absolutely conclusive result can be obtained.

Excellent work!

I would call this test cute. hardly similates real world conditions.

not enough airflow volume through core, no cooling air through outside. no pressure at all. the flow test may be helpful. but the temp test could be way off for many reasons.

If you want hard evidence, here is what you do....go to the dyno shop, have your ebay in the back seat. Pull the bumper off, make 3 dyno pulls, average the numbers.

Remove and replace intercoolers, and make 3 more pulls, average the numbers.

This still not be good though because a 4 gear pull at the drag strip may generate more heat then a 1 gear pull on the dyno.

I'm actually thinking about doing this test next week if I can.
