I think this was actually reviewed in a magazine scan someone posted when the Evo 8 was just released in the US. It was in some magazine from HK i believe. If it's the exact same shifter as the one from the magazine, you still need to use the clutch to shift up and down.

How many of us are REALLY missing shifts because of the shifter though? I can see using a rachet type (Sequential) shifter in a road racing or rally environment because its one of those 'bang a gear' situations, up one, down one or two, etc.. However on the street, you may find it frustrating. I had a Hurst shifter for my 4 speed muscle car that was a "rachet shift" designed for drag racing, but essentially the same thing.. If you've ever driven a motorcycle, your getting something like that..

Most of us are having trouble clutching quickly, or grinding a gear because of not adequately disengaging the clutch.. I think the clutch restrictor mod (which is free) will be time better spent. Again, unless you really need the shifter for road racing or whatnot.

from what ive read its still improves your shifting times, even though you still have to use clutch it reduces your shifting time, you dont have to think about it, up and down
but its definatelly designed for racing

See I can see a sequential Manual Electronic transmission.. All the goodies of manual with no clutch pedal.. Its an electro-hydraulic nightmare that I'd hate to have to work on.. but I've seen them on BMW's and Ferraris, and its impressive.

Don't forget Toyota

THe MR2 Spyder has it as well as only a $1000 option!!!

Now why doesn't Mistu offer a little better behaving one for under $1500. Now that Toyota's is 4 years old, it wouldn't be hard for Mitsu to just do some reconessence (sp?) on BMWs, Toyotas, Ferraris, etc and develop one.

I think its the old KISS Theory on technology.. Keep It Simple Stupid.. Use something that works, and don't clutter it with too much bells and whistles.. and see if it floats..
