AC fan problems from HELL!

See post below!

I'm going through something weird. I have about 6K on my exedy twin. This just started about 3 weeks ago. Sometimes...about once a day I will come to a complete stop and then when I let off the clutch, or go to engage the clutch it begins to make this really load vibration....like the clutch plates are banging the hell out of each other. I then pump the clutch a couple times (5-10) really fast and it goes away.

The car will move when this happens, but OMG is it loud! It also happened when I was coasting into a car wash and hit a bump. Just happens randomly. I want to record it with my phone but everytime it happens I am out driving.

It just sounds horrible and loud! What confusses me is when this happens the clutch peddel is not being pressed in and the noise contiunues when the clutch is pressed in (dis-engaged). It sounds like the clutch is going to come screaming out of the trans! This is not anywhere near as quite as the whine of engagment, the rattle of decelleration, of the chatter when the pedal is pushed in.

I tried thinking of everything, even slave or master cylinder related, but even if they were stuck so the clutch was disengaged, everytime I disengage this clutch this sound would happen.

To best discribe it, take the decleration sound and make it about 20 times loader!

Any ideas?

Well the noise happened yesterday again and I found the reason for it. I went to record it with my camera and realized the fan for the A/C was on. Looked further to notice the blade was not attached and was rubbing onto the condensor. Well here is the end result.....new condensor and fan needed!

The nut stripped off the fan and the blade got loose. Since it was still spinning it pressed the nut into the condensor and caused a fair amout of PITA! The hole is about half inch deep.

Hell yea! I kept wondering how the clutch would make that sound because it just did not seem right. The clutch should not make any chatter noise when engaged, and the clearance between the disks when dis-engaged are soooooo small. I coud not even think what in the cluch would cause the sounds I was hearing.

Well obviously the reason I could not think how the clutch would do this was because the clutch was not doing it, thank god too, because I did not want to pull the transmission again!

Better the fan than the clutch. Much easier to replace.

/\ definatly. I just wish they didnt make so much noise when the clutch pedal is pressed in. It just gets annoying everytime you shift at low rpms. I guess that what you get for increased holding power..

Yea! It is only my time since I would do the work, but it is not a 3-4 hour job like it was on the old DSM's. The whole transfer case crap is a PITA. But now I have to deal with putting in a new condensor and re filling it all, for something I will use but 3 or 4 times a year. At least the clutch I use every day, lol.

For me it is not as bad as the deceleration sound. I don't really mind it. Plus I have 272's in the car and when I go somewhere and get out of the car I can hear the front bumper rattling. I guess like you said real power. Most cars that make power make funny noises, it is when the noises stop that you start to go and worry.

i just got my new clutch, and putting it in tomorrow, i dont think i could have deal with the loud noises, most of the time when your car has weird noises it worries you, so i went with a heavy duty single disc, because i dont plan to punish my car at the track this year or at least to much. its good you found your problem

Has anyone had this happen to them?

I put the new fan and condensor in the car two weeks ago and this issue happened again!!! Now I have JB welded the damn thing onto the motor. The fan did not put a hole into the condensor, but it did cause some damage. Just now pissing me off!!!
