It's only when we dogg, and run the car hard we should let it cool down. I've had mine set at 30 seconds for one year and I had no problems with my turbo (volkswagen 1.8t, soon to be an evo, I hope) the longest I've seen somebody set their tt for, is 20 mins.. but that was a civic si turbo, that ran 11s.. just because that motor isnt made for a turbo and needs to cool down for that amount of time. Hope this helps buddy.
They are not meant to be turned on and off like an NA engine.
The owners manual tells you to let it run before shut down.

I always run my HKS type 0 on auto and just about every time I'm ready to park my car, the timer's around 2:30 to 3 minutes unless I've been driving mildly, then it'll still be over a minute. I think the auto feature works great and if you have it, use it; it takes all the thinking out of it.

How much should I expect to spend on a turbo timer and is it something a mechanically DECLINED person can install, or would it be safer to have it professionally installed? Also, doens't APEX'i sell a boost controller/turbo timer in one? I think the Super AFC has both functions, but I have yet to look. Apex Motorsports in Tempe, AZ said that it was two tools in one. Thanks...

Can't speak for the Apexi.
In general $100 shipped for a TT.
HKS Type 0 is relatively easy with the harness. Just need to plug in harness and provide power and ground.
Type one is obviously better because of more features, like auto timer. It needs two wires on the ECU to be spliced which is not that difficult either. You could go either way with the install. I imagine you could do it successfully just take your time.

You'll need a 95-99 Eclipse turbo timer harness for you to install a turbo timer for easy installation. I think they cost bout $10-15 bucks.
