4g64.....help

I got a friend 4g64 out of an '00 Eclipse.....it has a spun bearing and scarred crankshaft, is there anything that he can use out of this motor?

YES! Don't discard it, give it to me! If he replaces the crank and bearings it should be just fine (as long as it didn't get a hole punched through it by one of the connecting rods!). If the crankshaft journal bearing surface isn't damaged too badly, it might be able to be re-used if the machine shop re-grinds it.

after reading some of the threads about the 4g64 and Evo head, it seems like the 2000 Eclipse motor doesnt bolt right into the Evo.....is this correct? becuase of engine mounts, p/s and a/c mounts?

and would it be better to use a Lancer Ralliart 2.4L motor instead? if so, how much do one of those go for?

The 4g64/4g63 blocks are directly interchangeable between the 3rd Generation Eclipse and the Evo. Reason being I know of atleast 1 3G Eclipse owner that has done a 4g63 swap into an Rs/Gs.

Hell, I have a 3G eclipse, and am doing the opposite this winter (Evo Head on top of my block.)

It'll make your car a 2.3, not a 2.4. It's much easier to start on your side, as you already have most of the parts you need right in your engine bay. Also, if you're gonna spend the money, get the RRS Pistons made for a 4G63/4G64 Hybrid motor... with their rings, you'll get 8:1 compression and be able to get boost happy.

If you're interested in the swap, join Club3G.com and talk to a couple guys in there, it's a popular swap. DNS-EN, FlashBlueRS or NAPALM are probably the best people on the site to talk to about the hybrid.
