Works air filter - Fitment on IX

I recently ordered a Works air filter replacement for my stock airbox on my IX MR. I got it today and installed it, but I notices that the stock airbox cover is not sealing properly because the Works filter seems taller than the OEM filter.

Is this normal, or is it going to cause loss in power?

I have read of some people putting holes in their factory air boxes, and in effect, this is what I have now. I havent noticed any difference at all in sound or power (not that expected too much), but I don't know if it's related to this weird fitment. Can someone please tell me if this is normal/if its ok/?

Thanks

The Works drop in filter should fit a IX with no problems.

Your airbox should be properly sealed or you could have some minor issues such as dirt getting "by" the filter which over time would cause a problem. Other than maybe letting in a little "hotter" air from the engine bay, it should not really cause any performance issues.

I believe that the actual filter is sealed because the box cover is pushing down tightly on the filter. However, I do see that the actual lid isnt as flush as it was with the OEM filter...

you might have installed it backwards, it has to go rubber seal down. . .

Yes, the rubber seal is down, and it only fits in one way. Thats not my question. My question is about the small gap all around the box lit, even the the rubber seal is flush with the bottom of the air box...

Had the same problem as the OP. There is a small gap around the cover, but it doesn't affect filitering capability. It was pretty tough getting the lid snapped on the first time, but as another guy said, after a few months of being smashed, it fit better.
