New Turbo

My friend is looking into getting a new turbo. I was looking at getting a 37r and was planning on getting supporting mods such as intercooler, injectors, and possibly a standalone. I did some searching and didnt find really any answers i was looking for. Is this turbo going to be super laggy on a stock block? I want the 37r cause its capabilities will exceed the 35r and 50 trim when putting in a stroker. I plan on getting a stroker but i was seeing what peoples opinions where and what else is required for this kit.

I would build the block and head and get a stand alone. Ive been running this turbo for awhile now. I love it on the street and the track.

too much power = pop

Cant skip any steps with that much power =-)

You can run it on stock block, but ur not going to be able to go anywhere near maxing it out.

Cheers!

Its not a matter of turbo lag its the stock internals will not hold up to the power level this turbo is capable of. Unless you crank the boost down to 25 psi and but than you can make that much power with a smaller turbo with alot less lag.

that turbo isnt really that laggy. im guessing you mean your gonna build a 2.0l cause that is what you should do. my friend has this turbo and he spooles at about 45 to 4700. so it isnt really that bad. and btw that turbo kicks some serious ace

i understand that, but he wants the turbo to bolt on his stock block and has been looking into the 37r. Would it be wise for him to go witha 35r and transiition to a 37r when he does the stroker. He plans on getting the stroker but not for a month or 2.

I would be afraid of throwing a rod bolt or lifting the head. You throw the rod bolt goodbye to the block and crank. I guess you could do headstuds and rod bolts but it would be in his best interest to just wait to build the block. Im just giving you advice from all my booboos

thats what i made the post for. I have seen that some kits like ams will have a 35r and 37r will bolt up to the same parts. Is it worth it to buy the 35r for the power it makes on the stock block and then upgrade to the 37r when he can afford the stroker?

Correct me if im wrong but isn't the Precision 67 about 3/4to1" longer in the center?
I know when ETS built my 67 kit Precision told us that it was the exact same size as the 35r well when we went to mount her up we hit the motor mount. We called Precision and they made a mistake and told us it was longer. Also you would have to send the turbo back to get it balanced if you just switched wheels. But if ya got a way to balance turbos in that super clean shop of yours more power to ya

Be prepared to spend some serious $. I'd consider going with a stroker or 2.4L just to get a bit more usable powerband.

It seems your friend needs to do some more research because I really don't think he understands what it takes to get to where he wants to go. What if the tranny breaks? What if the TC goes? What about labor? Etc, etc.

It's like someone who says they want a large house, without looking at insurance, taxes, and upkeep.
