Well it sounds like no one is going anywhere with this, I think I'll just keep it stock intill we get further results.

Just put stock airbox back on...boy it was a *****...my dad was complaining because that air duct thing is like 1 cm away from the 2 screw hole thingees and i lost both screws so its not really held by anything but that should be fine....I hope no vacuum lines were kinked in the process....I'm letting the ECU reset and im gonna go on a test drive in a bit and let u know if stock or the RMR filter is better...

lol find those screws!

The intake install is way easier with the battery removed. plus you can see everything!

I think someone needs to come up with a good cold air box and a K+N filter. I sold a 1991 NSX to get my evo and I had a cold air box and a lot of people would use the filter with no box and suck in hot air. The idea is too get more air that is just as cool, not hot air. I also had a 1994 rx-7 so I know a little about hot vs cold intake. Also hot air will kill the way the car responds.

you dont really NEED the screws....if the duct comes off, ill put it back hehe....oh yeah an by the way, my STOCK evo accelerates better and has more torque that i feel compared to my evo with that RMR kit....With an ECU flash i bet the RMR kit would actually give me gains but I'm waiting for an ECU

All I have to say is DITTO.

I put the RMR intake on, everything was fine and dandy, no issues whatsoever, install was a snap, no lost boost, nothing.

Part throttle boost and part throttle torque response just wasnt there.. it only felt good at high rpms

I put the stock intake back on and presto, car feels very responsive and you can modulate the throttle through a drift or hard turn much much easier.

I think the intake becomes noticeable once the rest of the airflow has been addressed. I have the turbo-back exhaust and the intercooler hardpipe kit. I don't lag down low and I pull strong to (and past) redline. Plus if you like the blow-off noise, you'll hear it loud and clear even with the stock BOV. I am still waiting for the Cusco suction pipe to be finished and get final dyno #s...

All of my parts are RMR except for the turbo timer (HKS). I think ALL of my upgrades (installed, tax, etc.) cost about $2500. As for the BOV, there isn't a problem with stock, but if I do change it, I will probably go with the chrome Forge recirc valve. We'll see. The only thing I really want to do is put the blue Samco radiator hoses and the Cusco suction pipe (blue).

As for the original topic, I think the intake does help (at least that's what the dyno said).

RMR has a new intake scoop they showed us at the meet in huntington beach/malibu. takes up half of the hood vent and is made of CF. It ducts cold air from outside down over the top of the filter.

it sounds like that setup will be a tunnel for water when the car is just sitting there if it rained.

RMR has pics on their site. As far as the rain goes, I asked about that. The way the pipe is ducted underneath, combined with the oil in the air filter, there shouldn't be any water concerns. It looks really good in person and is very low-profile.

heh, i just took the two top pieces off of the stock airbox and secured the air filter and the four clips so they dont move. I dont notice any gain OR loss, just that you can hear some nice suction noises and the stock BOV sounds like a wet fart between shifts / letting off the throttle.
