Free HKS SSQV... should I do it?

A buddy of mine used to use his SSQV for his DSM before he sold it, but now he has no need for it since he drives an NA car and he offered to give it to me since it's just sitting in his garage. I talked with him about how I have heard nothing but horror stories about these atmospheric BOVs and how they cause random issues etc. but he assured me if I bought a flange from HKS it would allow the BOV to recirculate back into the intake. He said the sound wouldn't be as loud, but it would get rid of any issues associated with running an atmospheric BOV.

So should I do it? All I have to do is buy the flange...

I'm mechanically retarded so if anyone feels like explaining the flange a bit more to me and why it's safe or if it's still not a good idea... please let me know. I do love the way that particular BOV sounds so if I could run it I would really like to.

A BOV is a pretty simple device, so I don't see any issues in installing it. You'll have to buy the flange to mount the BOV and the recirculation kit so it can vent back into the intake. With those, there shouldn't be any issues.

Stick with the stock IX BOV. It will work just fine up to 24 to 25 Pounds.

Never pass on something that is free. Like the others said, sell it on ebay and get something that actually makes a difference (a good difference).

come on guys... reselling it is not an option. If I take it from him, then we're going to be installing it on my car.

I guess I'll just try it out and if I notice that it's affecting the performance I'll just give it back to him.

Does anyone have a link to the flange/recirculation kit that is required to install this thing properly???
