Engine: Evo Blew on first day (Help!)

Ok, i am fairly new to the forum.

I just got my Evo yesterday, and not even 5 hours the car died.
No lie, i was stepping on it just a Little, what can you expect when an STI comes beside me trys to mess around.

When ever i acceded it was making like a knock noise. I park the car at a parking lot and as soon as i push the clutch in the car shuts off.
And doesn't come back on, honestly doesn't even crank much.

So i called the dealer, and the came and picked it up. Found out it spun a bearing.
Well they called me just now and told me about it. and said they are going to rebuild the motor.

Honestly i don't know if thats the smartest thing for them to do. I think it would be best if they replace it completely.

Because i think... if the bearing spun, then the rod bore might be messed up or the Crank
So then they will have to replace the rods, and if they do that then they will have to take the pistons out..
and if they do that then they might as well replace the pistons as well and the rings.. which means then the block will have to be honed.

And honestly who knows what condition the rest of the motor is..

I am a Nissan guy, so i don't know much about mitsu.. YET !!!!
And thats what i am here to find out, what do you think?

Background:
04 Evo w/ 57K

The car when i got it had an intake and a Greddy typeS
So who ever had it before, was having some fun.

AND !!!!
There was a hole under the Clement which makes me think there use to be a boost control there.

Definately dude, all used evos were overboosted. its a tough car to buy used. my advice, fix it as cheap as u can and sell it . unless u are very good with cars and have time because one thing after another is going to start falling apart. the car was probably beat to ****. get it checked out and go from there.

umm dealerships never rebuild the motors... way to much labor, they usually just take it out and order a new one and put that one in..

return the car to the dealer, and demand that they return your cash.

It wont be coming out of my pocket, the dealer will have to fix it.

Theare a garage/dealer, they work on cars and have a lot.
They have very nice cars, and do decent work.

My concern is, if they rebuild it, whats not to say something else happends down the road. something else messes up.

I honestly thinkg the best thing to do is get a reman or something from mistu.

Apparently you do not know the way Mitsubishi operates. Yes,while it is true that most other auto manufactures will replace the short block the Mitsu way of thinking is to rebuild any time it is able to be rebuilt.I know this 1st hand

That's not always true. It just depends on who's paying. I doubt Mitsu is covering this, so the dealership itself is probably paying.

Its not a mistu dealer, its a local dealer that sells pre owned cars.

I just called Mistu and they want 2,900 for a short block.
I am going to recomend the shop that they just get a shory block
And if they say no. Then i will ask for my money back

Does that sound like a good idea?
Any thing to look for in the heads or any thing else?

I forgot to mention that this shop had to already replace the tranny when they got the car.
So god knows this car was beat.

sorry to hear that happnd, that car is obviously beaten to ****, but if they put in a new tranny and they put in a new engine then pretty much youve got a somewhat fresh start, besides the possibility of transfer case problems

good luck

negotiate with them, if they're going to spend an arm and a leg see if you can get a built shortblock to replace it instead of a factory block.

If you have a new tranny with the car and then get a new block then that is pretty much a new car ... heck you might as well pay a little extra and get better internals put into the engine during the rebuild

or you could ask for a refund.

if they're going to rebuild it for free then do it i say, then stroke it. But you're still going to run the risk of tranny stuff. Another example of stupid evo owners that beat the crap out of their cars when they don't know very much about them, then the car ends up in the hands of someone who desires it and it dies. you should hunt down the stupid kid that owned that car before hand and beat him with the broken parts.
