Nisei or ETS Intercooler...?
ok last time....i understand what your saying. but does anyone know if a 3.5" is going to hurt me? hurt the spool up, or hurt the powerband somewhere in the curve? MY CAR WILL RETAIN STOCK TURBO FOR AT LEAST 50K, or when ever i have the money to build the car the right way. My car is a weekend car that i only drive at nite and in the winter time here in AZ. i mean to give you guys an idea....my car is about to turn 2 years old and it only has 5000 miles on it. spending money is not an object when buying parts for my car, but i have gone thru a few set-ups to get to the one im at now (all WORKS parts) I just want a IC that will give my every last drop of power in my evo.
Also my car ONLY runs on race gas, so meth or alky will not come up nither. this is the last engine mod going on my car in an attempt to get as close to 400whp as i can. i just want to make the right choice the first time around.
But thanks again guys, all of you for your opinions and comments.

I have a nisei and just purchased an ETS 3.5" IC with all piping. The quality on both are great. I have ran both in comparison (non dyno) and I like the ETS better. It cleans up the grill a bit more and it seemed to spool a few rpm faster, nothing major. They are both nearly equal performance wise and I think ETS takes the win because of their AMAZING (really amazing) customer service. Great guys over there. Here are some pics of the ETS in my living room.

Wife would come in a say no sex for a week
You guys are always welcome to call with any questions you have (no matter how technical) and we'll be happy to answer. Our owner is beyond knowledgeable on the subject and our intercoolers are a product of his years and years experience in the industry. To say that I've learned more than I thought possible about intercooler design from him would be an extreme understatement. Even if you stump me, the answer is still here in house
There are significant differences between our intercooler and the others guys' that make ours better, but most have been covered in this thread and others. If you'd like a full rundown you're welcome to PM, E-mail or call us. To top off the quality and performance you'll receive, we price them extremely competitively to make the choice even easier

I don't know how the ETS quality is ,but from comparing the ETS, Buschur, Nisei, Perrin ,Turbo XS ,Greddy and injen -The ETS 3.5 does not have the most cooling tubes or surface area, but you get the most surface area for your buck$ out of the ones compared, and because of that Im really considering the ETS 3.5.
Also I don't want to trim my crash beam. so....

Evilevo,
If I had to do it again and considering that you are keeping the stock turbo then I would suggest holding to the stock IC.
I can see that you live in 1hot AZ so I know exactly what the altitude and heat can do to the car.
There are great and knowledgeable people on this forum, I would fairly consider every comment but from my own point of view and based on my personal experiences I would pay a lot of attention to my reviews:
I live in the same altitude and heat as you
I have dyno my Evos about 30-40 times
I have tuned my Evos via shipped ECU, on the dynos and on the roads(several times)
I have dyno my cars in 3 different awd dynos around the local area
I have recorded the boost drop before and after the aftermarket IC install.
I have recorded the boost simultaneously in 4 different gauges (Al's lap top, dyno boost sensor, Evo MR gauge and Defi gauge with controller)
I am currently running a Evo 8 IC on a Eclipse which put 400whp on a Mustang Dyno which shows you how capable the stock unit is. My sincere opinion is that you can hold on to the stock IC for a while then if you are itchy about an IC upgrade then you can do it.
Many people claim good gains with upgrade IC but in reality look the conditions: They have access to 93oct, they live at sea level and they live in colder areas, that is totally the oposite of what we get here (Tucson).
Did I forgot to mention I tested the IC at the 1/4 mile track(SIR and Firebird) at least a good 30 times/passes? and yes, my spool up was badly hurt plus the IC robbed me some solid boost as well.
PM me.
Carlos

Ifarted2,
Everyone knows your sponsored by ETS. The quote you posted: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...0&postcount=78
Do you know if that quote is about Nisei's street or competition fmic? I know Nisei street is known for their cooling, but their compeition fmic is suppose to have the same cooling with 1/2 the pressure drop of the street fmic.

Get the ETS 3.0 unit. Flows for 500WHP and drops the 2.5 PSI LOSS (restruction) you get on the OEM unit to less then 1 PSI. That is what yoru paying for man. That is where you pick up your power and your turbo doesn't have to work as hard to hit 21PSI (OEM would be 23.5 PSI needed to see 21PSI at the manifold Vs. almsot 22 for the ETS, efficiency.)
