Trans clank?

When shifting between first and second...generally downshifting 2nd to first... It sounds like a clanking sound...not grinding and it feels like the gear snaps into place. A metal sound. I dont have a grinding sound. (grinding is the sound you make when you dont use the clutch)... Alot of people use the term 1-2 grind in previous posts... but mines not a grind...but a clank coming from the front of the car...

ideas?

The only sound I ever get with mine is occasionally when I put my car into reserve. It will sometimes make a metal on metal clink sound right when it goes into gear. Im going to have it checked on monday with my oil change to see whats up.

I get the clanking noise in the same gears also. It makes my car sound abosolutly like ****. When I bring the car in for service I'm definitley bringing it to their attention. I don't car if my car makes rattles and clicks, but over my dead body will I have my performance sedan transmission that cost me $34k sounding worse than a $10k Civic DX

Yea, I get that clank sound every now and then too. I thought it was normal, til I saw this thread. Why is it that I'm getting all the common problems around here?

It's AWD. My Lexus RX300 does that too.

yes it's normal. Just don't go from 2nd to first at any speed over 5 mph.

Again like i've been seeing on these boards....it seems like a lot of people who buy this car forget they are buying a race car, not your normal every day driver. Ignore the clinks and clanks, if you can't--maybe this car isn't for you?

I went to E-town this weekend for Summer Slam... I managed to turn my clank into a grind at slow speed. The worst part is I get a grind shifting into second while im racing. It happened on two runs! BlueRocket...I thought I bought a racecar? I talked to a guy with another Red Evo, he stated he was having the same problems... He has been having the problems since he got his... He stated that once he switched to BG syncroshift the problems went away...hrmmm

And btw he was running 12.2 @ 118

I've only heard the "clank" in reverse when I screw up and engage the clutch too fast. But, it's fairly minimal, and from what I've heard seems to be normal dif noise.

Add another evo to the weird clanking sound list. It only does it "randomly" so I played it off as just AWD tranny slop. I'm not to worried about it..it doesnt do it at the track, mostly when I'm just cruising around. Thats why we have a warranty anyway right? If it breaks..it gets fixed!
