Annoying idle problem with AEM EMS
Hey guys,
As of late, I have been experiencing an annoying problem with my car. About 50% of the time when I start the car, warm or cold, the car will idle irregularly high. It varies how high- sometimes as high as 3k RPM's, but most of the time when it does it, it will idle at 2k RPM's or so. If I turn the car off and turn it back on, most of the time it cures it and the idle goes back to a normal 1000rpm. Do you guys know what could be causing this? I don't know how to use the datalogger on the EMS so I haven't tried hooking up my laptop to see what was going on. I would appreciate any insight. Thanks guys!

I had to tweak a few areas in the Engine start area as I had the same problem.
Look at: Idle target base table, and Idle% vs Target table.
These are two main areas where you can tweak the high idle. I set mine like pictured below.

if your idle fb below rpm is set a little on the low side & you start your car cold in the morning, the ecu does what it can to bring the revs to target, then if the rpm goes above the idle fb below value, the ecu does not try to reduce your revs because the rpm is above the above mentioned parameter.
just remember, that the aem is complex & your are juggling more than 1 or 2 parameters!
i have been using these settings for ~1 year without issue......i lived in santa clarita when it was 20deg - 115deg & this thing idled very well, a/c on or off too.
you really need to have your idle% vs. target set up for your car

I have had some problems with idle as well. There are other factors that really effect idle: Cams, injector size, fuel trim & timing, can also effect it. That graph that was posted is a good start for sure.

as of late, i have figured out a way to combat the problem without changing anything with the tune. Before I crank the car, I wait about 5 seconds with the key in the 'on' position and then I crank it. So far, with this technique, I haven't had the problem come up.

Very good info here on the AEM. I had the same problem with mine depending on the weather as well, so some tweaking was needed. My curve is a little more linear shaped then the one posted above, but all setups are different.
