I bought a 06 gsr,when i got the car..It had a boost controller in the car,and drop in filter..My question..Is without a tune,how much boost is safe to turn the boost up to??I have a boost gauge i am about to install tonight..And with my old vw turbo..You could turn the bost up to about 16 pounds safely..I have no idea about the evo..I just came from a WRX..Any help would be appreciated..Thanks..Justin

Welcome to the EVO world. I am running mine at 21 psi tuned. I wouldn't suggest any boost envoles without proper tune. I would say either ways (too rich or too lean) will hurt the engine. I might not happen now, but it would in the longivity perspective

Do you get 93 or 91 octane gasoline in your area? The IX is more forgiving than the VIII's are knockwise. What brand of MBC do you have?Get that boost gauge installed pronto and let us know what boost level your car is curretly running.

 

WE HAVE 93 here..I am also going to do a downpipe hopefully this week sometime..As soon as i get the gauge installed..I'll let you know..Justin

 

OK,I GOT THE BOOST GAUGE INSTALLED.In third gear its hitting 14-15 psi..How much is stock boost levels in a 9??I thought i read somewhere they were pushing 19-20..But,anyways i need to get myexhaust,and then a tune..Any suggestions on exhausts??Thanks..Justin

lets hope you're not holding 20-21 at redline....THAT, You are not tuned for. Check all vacuum connections. You can never be too sure on a used car.

 

No 4dr..I am anly holding about 14-15 at redline..I was asking what i could kick the boost up to safely,or at all..I heard that the evos were pushing 19-20 stock..The i heard you could push 20 safely..I was just trying to get some info..I'll probably just wait until i get tuned..Thanks guys..Justin
