Depends on how close your tune is to being lean. If you are fairly safe say, 11.0 flat accross the powerband, then I wouldn't worry about it.

Either way run a log somewhere safe say in 3rd gear.

I really like the -2/-3 setting that TedB recommended. I've been with it for about 4 months and prefer it to my previous +1/-1. Are you still on the stock turbo?

Cam gears allow one to tweak the powerband wherever it's most needed. The cam timing settings that make best peak power differ from those that make the biggest midrange torque. It's primarily a matter of turbo size, driving style, additional mods, fuel, and tuning. Tuning cams is like adding a graphic equalizer to a sound system and finding the settings that sound the best to you.

Gonna Hijack here for a minute.

Hey Ted,
I'm curious to what you think about a cam gear on the a MIVEC engine? Is it worth it, should one just adjust via VVT map or both? My first thought is both, but I'm not sure what to change first and how each would effect the other. Thanks.

If a cam gear is useful on a MIVEC engine depends entirely on the base timing of the (exh) cam. If I wasn't crazy about the timing of the exh cam (and I'm not crazy about it with some sets), I would set the exh cam gear where I wanted to position the LC, then construct my MIVEC map around that base cam timing.

Changing your Cam gears settings affect the VE. Contact your tuner for advice and also retuning after the change.
