transfer case trouble shooting

other than the "whine" is there anything else i can check to see if my transfer case is getting ready to die?
Im asking cause i can hear the whine on 4th and 5th gear., i changed the fluid and the magnetic bolt was not really bad....a little metal fuzz but nothing that would say 100% bad TC....

bump for answers. My whine got very loud in 1st gear (deceleration). But I don't get it in any other. It would be hard to tell over my exhaust, but maybe a slight whine is 2nd at low rpms.......???

It will get worse and it will get louder and more apparent in lower gears and load. I have had the whine for almost 1 year...I bought another TC just ...haven't had time to install it.

I have slight whine at acceleration at 2-3krpm only in 4th. No whine at all in any other gear. I don't think this is a transfer casea, but rather a gear going bad in a transmission or a transmission shaft bearing.
Whine is gone once clutch is disengage. I reaaly hope it is something as simple as a throuwout bearing but don't hold my breath. it's at 42k very easy miles mark since new. driveline fluid changes every 15k miles - BG Synchroshift in tranny and OEM Diaqueen in TC/diff
