Induction Pipe Question

So its been posted that changing the stock air box on the evo causes bad MAS readings and makes the evo run lean in some parts correct? I was wondering if there would be any performance gains if any if you just changed the induction pipe with an rmr, cusco, etc..., since the induction pipe is already past the MAS it would just smooth out the flow of air better. thanks

I am assuming you are talking about the suction pipe?

I plan on getting one (debating which one solely based on color since they're the same - either Cusco, Ralliart or RMR). I haven't heard anything about it leaning it out. I have the RMR intake now and it didn't change anything. After the ECU was reflashed, then it ran leaner.

You have to match the air/fuel ratio as closely as possible. That's why the ECU flash is such a power-maker. Mitsu richens the mixture to error on the side of caution, but a lean mixture is better if it stays within parameters (determined by the ECU). No worries...

I have heard this sbout the intake box too. But many people are running without any problems.

As for the pipe I agree with you, but my intake is stock so I don't know yet. I will be replaceing both peices.

After you replace the stock box with an intake system (RMR or other type of short-ram system), you'll notice the blow-off noise and induction sounds. It's pretty cool.

Chris, you should really try running the 100/91 mix then. I have'nt touched my engine bay (except to install the strut bar and grounding kit ), and just with the gas the turbo is significantly louder.

Sweet

Back to the post - the intake is the best sounding mod (the exhaust is good too)

Downpipe is the best bolt-on mod for the money
ECU flash is the single best power add for the money

That's why I love the Evo - so many ways to add power, all depending on what you want and how much you want to spend. And most of the mods are inexpensive compared to most car brands...
