Its pretty F'd up someone rips people off like this. Im sure ams knew that when people made this copy this would be an issue. cause i cant go to anyone and be like um yeah someone sold me a fake intercooler and said it was yours.... and the guy closed out his ebay/paypal account too.

someone post up the inside the end tanks of a ebay/ams copy vs the inside of a true AMS/brand name core.

the inside of the i/c on the left doesnt look very efficient at cooling for high boost. (almost all ebay units look like this). the inside of the taller one on the right has more fins and generates a cooler/dense/more efficient charge.

another pic of the inside of an efficient cooling I/C

i apologize for the large pics... but its all i had

What's the pressure drop on that larger core? It seems that it would be really efficient, but also a little restrictive. I agree that the smaller core has a horrible fin layout. I have pics of my eBay core and the fins are somewhere between the two you posted. It's close to the larger core than the smaller one though ... I'll try to post when I get home from work.

BTW, it's nice to see another VW guy here. I think a lot of us upgraded to Evos.

Well going from the crappy core on the left to a Precision PTE 600 i/c core (which was a huge jump) i didnt see any significant drop. my ebc settings were untouched, everything stayed the same except the core and my boost logs were identical while the IAT logs dropped drastically.

I still have the Vw. boy if that was awd......... forgetabout it. sux cause right now i cant even mod the evo cause h20 is around the corner.

I've attached a pic of the fins on my eBay IC. I don't think it's a split fin design but the fin density is better than stock. I paid like $165 for mine shipped.

And I don't really miss my VW at all ... but it was a Beetle and not a GTi. Still 1.8t, but it was the crappy APH with downgraded everything ...

hmm i bought my evo from ebay. My evo must be crap.
I saw local dealership was selling evo online(new). I was searching through ebay and found out they had one in stock. So basically i bought it from ebay.
Everything from ebay is crap?
I have ebay catback and ebay ic. I know its better than stock. I dont race and dont plan to race. So should i use 800 dollar on brand name intercooler and 800 on turboback?
spent about 350 for both. Thats way better than using 1600.
It will be waste of money and part for me to get those quality parts when I wont be using them in my daily drive.
I know AMS and buscher makes quality parts. If money is not issue, i would going with both company.
Its been year and non of them broke or anything wrong with my car(but needs tune really bad)

btw there are more than one design on ebay intercooler. I bought mine from xspower for 135shipped and had no problem so far.
