blown front diff ! !
Will you be racing at the event? And Do you know if it will be televised?
I enjoy watcing those expensive bumpers and quarter panels get all mangled, heh. They really had a hard time locallay at Texas Motorspeedway last year, running inbetween the Petit Le Mans group.

I've been studying the pictures of the transmission. I figured out that the front diff must be in the transfer case.
What I can't figure out is where the center viscous coupler is. The center diff is open, so there must be a VC somewhere.

Center diff is in the transfer....front diff is in the gearbox housing...I think Shiv posted that the LSD produced by Ralliart or cusco can't remember which did not fit the US evo....Maybe he was trying to fit the LSD in place of the center diff not the front.....could you clarify what you did try shiv?

There is no similar parts breakout for the transfer case. It doesn't really make sense to have the center differential in the transfer case and the front diff in the transmission since the center diff has to drive the front diff.
ShapeGSX: I spent a while earlier studying those pics as well. I too noticed that the center diff was an open mechanical piece. The viscous coupler is on the other side of the front diff. I'm trying to find diagrams of it now, but the techinfo site is not cooperating with me.
TRUE, the center diff is in the tranny/transaxle housing..but the viscus cupling part is actually in the "tranfer case" ! ! as the ring gear that drives the rear driveshaft/axle get's bolted to it ! ! !

I think I have it now. The outer shaft of the center differential drives the outer case of the viscous, which also happens to have the ring gear on it that drives the gear that drives the drive shaft.
The front diff gets driven by the inner shaft of the center differential. The viscous coupler's inner shaft is also driven by the inner center differential shaft.
So the output shaft of the transmission is really two shafts (inner and outer) on the same rotation axis. These two shafts are the output of the center differential.
There is NO front differential gear ratio, since there is no ring gear on the front diff!
That is a great design! The gear on the outside of the center diff has always been a weak spot for DSMs. The gear on the outside of the Evo's center diff looks like it is 2" wide! Fantastic! Love the synchronized reverse, too.

Do you work with Jorge there??? Jorge got my Old stoptech big brake kit for his Rex.
Tell him I said Hello.
Good luck with your tranny problems. looks like the US got shafted again we have a diffrent case then Euro spec EVO so the Ralliart limited diff does not fit.
VERY NICE SHOP CLEAN!!!!!

Perhaps they change it for all evo 8's? Perhaps the JDM's evo 8 RS-5 front LSD would would work?

So the viscous coupling/AKA center diff is in the transfer as I said ...and the front diff is in the transaxle...there is no changes people are trying to fit the front LSD in the center diff position, I am sure of this
