HELP!!! Air/Fuel

I recently installed my boost and Air/Fuel Gauge and both were working just fine. I was driving to work this morning and my Air/Fuel gauge was acting up. It was just sitting at Rich with one Green Bar and hesitently would flash to orange or red. Is there a bad connection? It was working perfect when I left.

One thing you should know is that since the Purple read out wire was short I had to use some other wire to extend it. The connections are secure and the wire is connected with a vampire clip to the O2 reading.

Are temps getting to hot for the other wire I added on?

I don't know please help.

dont worry, the blinky light AFR guages are garbage. If you see it cycling back and forth it is because the ECU is constantly adjusting the AFR.

An AFR guage is only good at WOT. You should see it read on solid color when you have you foot pegged! =)

It did cycle back and forth and then it just stopped and stayed at Rich with one green bar. After that it would kind flicker into other readings. It was weird because it was working perfect last night.

WTF!

The Air Fuel ratio will bounce back and forth between rich and lean during closed loop. The gauge is only useful at stoich. It is of NO USE at full throttle; ie., open loop. It will be rich there; in the green LED's. Again, the only A/F ratio the stock sensor is accurate at is 14.64:1 which is in the yellow "somewhere". If you want something to tune with, you'll need a wideband.

When Im dataloggin I only get my O2 voltage at full throttle. On my GST I always kept them around .91V

During normal cruising my O2 voltage was all over. Same as an AFR guage where each LED usually represents .1V.

Those AFR guages also read directly off of the O2 sensor as my data logger does.

Yeah and it is still not very useful. I have measured against wideband. The O2 sensor will read, say, .91V for 12.5 one time and five minutes later, .91V is correlating to 13.0. The voltage will vary from one example of the narrowband sensor to another as well.

LOL... sounds like you bought a Auto Meter gauge. One word... get yourself a WB! Honestly you could have chipped in with another guy and spent the same and had a proper gauge. Look up innovative motorsports. A Wide Band is one of the most useful tools that you will need.

You are not getting a good ground on your O2 connection. That will cause it to read rich. Check both your connections and especially the ground wire.

QuantumEVO is right about them not being consistent all the time. The stock O2 sensor vary as they heat up and cool. I believe that the air fuel ratio being pulled from stock O2 sensors is only as accurate as +/- .5 A/R value. If your air fuel gauge reads 11:1 air fuel ratio, you can pretty much guarantee that you are richer that 12:1 for sure. It should only be used as an approximate air fuel ratio. They are definitely not garbage, but are no where near as good as a wideband. People that say they are garbage are exaggerating slightly.
