TiAL 44MM Wastegate Question.

With my bushur racing turbo kit, in the 44mm wastegate, a 23 (or 24 w/e it is) pound wastegate spring was included, and for the longest time ive been running off of wastegate spring pressure as a boost controller.. Recently my tuner decided to swich out my spring for a smaller like 12 or 13 (im not sure the actual sizes, but a much smaller spring) pound spring.

Now this might be a ricey question but the way that the open wastegate sounded was extremly different, and alot louder, before the spring was changed.. am I just imagining this or is it actually happening? I really miss the loudness of the old spring, and I think I might have it reinstalled once my meth kit goes in.

Thanks alot

-Chris

I don't know about the change in sound, but there is no reason to use a spring any lighter than the minimum amount of boost one expects to run. As you denoted, if you can get a springs set for the boost level you want, there is no need for anything but the WG for boost control. It just doesn't get any simpler or better than that.

Agreed! Properly matching the spring rate to desired boost levels is the most rock solid way to control boost.

I could see using a slightly lighter spring if a you needed a range of adjustment due to pump/race maps etc.

Factoring the "sound" it produces into the decision process does indeed make you sound like an idiot. Come on guy. Stick to the program.

20.30psi is the highest spring pressure offered for the 44mm

it uses the big blue (13.05psi) and small blue (7.25psi) springs

you are probably imagining the noise
