question about revolver cams

this maybe a stupid question, but how do revolver cams put down more horse power than the hks 272/272 and the 280/280. when revolvers are like 262/264

I don't know about the revolvers, but that's a hell of a lot of posts for someone who's only been here 3 months :-)

The Revolver cams have the same effective duration as the 280 HKS cams measured at 1 mm of valve lift(222*). The Revolvers are a much higher lift cam than the HKS cams however. The Revolvers require upgraded springs and retainers, whereas the HKS 280's will work with the stock valvetrain bits.

The revolvers were a hit and miss due to their version of the upgraded springs and retainers. Make sure you get some other companies' upgraded headwork.

Yeah headwork and good tuning are crucial to making these cams work. I have been reading up on these cams and I hear they were discontinued by the manufacturer. A lot of members on this forum run these cams with an upgraded turbo and some sort of engine management other than the stock ecu. These are very aggressive cams so lifters, retainers, and a really good tune on a management system are recommended. I don't know if cam gears are important but I think they might be. I have just been reading up on these so don't know much. Why don't you contact David Buschur about these? He has been running these on his cars for a while.

Because advertised duration figures (e.g. 262, 272, etc.) are largely useless when comparing cams from different manufacturers as you can plainly see.

As said above, these numbers do not tell is the effective duration, nor do they tell us lift, nor do they tell us Lobe Centerlines or Lobe Separation Angles, nor do they tell us about the ramp profiles.

ALL of this must be considered if one is going to take a guess at how a cam set will perform by looking at paper specs.

They also have some hefty lift specs. I've always heard that on a turbo car lift and ramp rate is more important than effective duration other than where you want the most power to be made.
