Need help! overboosting!

Got a new clutch installed last week and ive been breaking the clutch in. Today is the first day I decided to get on it and when I did the car was boosting 2 bar immediately. I turned my hallman pro boost controller (only had it for 3 months) all the way down but it's still boosting 1.8 bar. Both vacuume lines to the boost controller are still connected and from what I can tell I don't see any tears in the lines. Anyone have a clue??

One quick test... connect your wastegate directly to a pressure source (your bov) with no MBC in between and see if your boost drops down to wastegate pressure. If it doesn't, you actuator is focked. It happened to me a few weeks ago. If the boost drops to wastegate pressure, your MBC might be messed up.

There are two ports on the Hallman MBC. The bottom port is the reference port and it should be routed via a vacuum hose to the boost reference source(either the compressor housing discharge nipple, or a "T" into the DV/intake manifold line).

The side port on your MBC should be routed to the nipple on the wastegate actuator. Is your MBC hooked up in this manner?

He said he's had the MBC for 3 months and just got his clutch in, so I'd assume it was working fine before the clutch. Shrugs. Maybe I read his statement wrong and shouldn't assume tho. lol.

Yeah, it was just a wild hunch. I am just trying to figure why his MBC isn't able to lower his boost. I've seen this problem before on here but am too "lazy" to do a search at the moment.

i had the same problem with my wastegate, it wouldn't open and then it would blow open and overboost to like 30psi, ur actuator could be ruined

lol. I see. Well the test I mentioned a couple of posts above should be able to help determine if the MBC is broken or not. It not, it's the wastegate actuator... If not that, the falpper inside the turbo is stuck, but that seems somewhat unlikely.

When you say that you turned your MBC, "all the way down", do you mean, all the way in, clockwise? To lower your boost level however, you should be turning your MBC all the way out, counterclockwise.

FYI, I referenced this info from an old Warrtalon post.

By all the way down I ment I lowered the boost as much as you possibly can with the MBC. I doubt the actuator is the problem seeing as when I first encountered the problem it was boosting 2.0bar in all gears but when I turned the boost all the way down on the MBC the boost pressure came down to 1.6bar in 2nd gear and 1.8 in 3rd.

I only have 9k miles on the car. I find it very hard to believe even the possability of the actuator going bad.

Yes I have verified that the lines were not accidently switched during the clutch install and everything appears to be as it was before I brought the car in for the clutch job.

This happened on my IX and found that the lines were backwards. Switched it and no more overboosting.

I'm sure they will fix the aftermarket manual boost controller issue.
