6 spd best place to mount a temp probe

I own an 06 MR w/ 6 spd tranny. I don't abuse my car or track it.... yet. However with all the people complaining about failures, I would like to monitor my transmission oil temperatures and put in a tranny cooler if needed.

Where is the best place to mount this oil Temp probe?

Thanks

You can have a machine shop drill and tap, or make a custom drain/fill plug for you.
That is the easiest and least evasive route.

Just my $.02

OK, that's one option.... However with the 6 speeds, the plugs are socket head bolts (that require an allan key) to remove.... so kind of hard to drill and install a probe there without completely rendering them useless.

Again, a machine shop can build you a temp probe "PLUG" that you use a wrench to take out. your probe will be in the center of that plug.

If your going to get a cooler anyway, run a sensor inline on the hotside of the (cooler inlet) oil cooler/trans cooler.(It's all oil of some sort)

bung?

if you have a tranny cooler you need a bung to run the line... so you still need the bung

OK... Let me make this simple.

For those of you familiar with the 6 speed transmission case... Where is the best place for me to drill and tap the case to place a temperature probe?

I do not have a cooler... I want to install a temperature probe to see if I will need a cooler in the future.

I don't want to spend money at a machine shop for something I can do myself. I just don't want to crack open my tranny case to see if I have clearance for the probe.

Give Shep or TRE a call and see what they suggest.

you'd prolly want a drilled hole and a welded bung for thread.

Check out the "Track ****** with 6 speeds" thread in the motorsports section. One guy posted pics of his tranny cooler set-up which has a temp probe right near the drain plug.
