Time for cams!

I'm now looking at picking up a set of cams. I would like maybe more midrange power, but also don't want to sacrafice every day driving.(It's my DD) Does brand make that big of a difference if the durations are the same? I plan on staying on the stock turbo for a good while. If I do upgrade, it will be to a turbo I can still run on stock internals.

Suggestions?

I have been for the past few days and I just come up with "I like ___" or "I bought ____" but don't really explain why they went with a certain cam.

Thanks for the link, I'll get to reading.

On a side note, general consensus on buying a set of used cams, or ?

I went with HKS 272s because the GSC S1s were not out at that time and I wanted to run the stock turbo but leave room to upgrade later to meth with stock turbo, a 20GLT, or maybe even 3076 at the biggest all with or without meth and didnt want to have to redo the cams if I went with a bigger turbo. So far on 93 octane, 23psi, and stock turbo with 10.5 I am extremely happy with them. I went with HKS because of the brand name and because I got them for $550 shipped brand new!!

Sounds like you are in the same boat I was last year so I recommend these or the S1 if you dont plan to run a much larger turbo ever.

GSC S1 pull like a mother ................................ I'd def recommend those or cosworth if you have a 9 or get revolver with some upgraded valve/springs/retainers if you have a 8

Nothing wrong with lightly used cams...it would be nice to get them new.

I passed up on a set of hks 272's for 300+shipping...i am probably gonna go with either HKS 280's or S1's. I have meth a 29psi so my low end mid range is sick...up top the 280's would be great.

Does the "loping" at idle mainly have to do with the duration of the brand or is it more mfr. specific?
