Gears Grind and Adjusting the Clutch Pedal Does Nothing??

I am having some grinding issues, here is the background.

I installed an Exedy HD twin about 3 months ago with a new TOB. I adjusted the clutch so that with my car in the air and the car in gear, with the clutch depressed the wheels would spin a little bit and then I extended the rod just a bit more so that the wheels would no longer spin. I understand this to be the proper way to adjust the clutch.

I drove for about 3 months and 2k miles without any problems at all, clutch was perfect.

I am not sure if it is because of the colder weather or something else going on here, but now its really notchy. This happens pretty much only in 1st and 2nd gear. Also it seems that the notchy feel comes and goes a bit. Like when the car is cold it is notchy, then it warms up and its fine, but then get notchy again.

I have tried adjusting the clutch for the past hour. I tried making the rod short, long, all the way out as long as it would go. Nothing seemed to work it was still notchy. The car was sitting on the ground with the engine on and the clutch in, I tried to put it in 1st and the car would move forward a tiny bit. This happened no matter how I adjusted the clutch.

It seems as though the car rocking forward even with the clutch all the way in shows that the clutch is still catching a bit. What else can I do?

I had the same problem with my Cusco two disk.

When it got cold, it'd be notchy as anything...as long as the gears arent grinding when you shift you should be ok.

After coming to a complete stop, try putting it in reverse abruptly.....if it BANGS into gear, you need to bring that rod out a little more.If it doesnt do it at all, its a product of it getting colder the tranny fluid thickening. I tried a FEW different tranny fluids and they all did the same, only the Amsoil lessened it by a noticeable margin.

I bled the clutch when I installed it 2k miles ago.

I will try re-bleeding the clutch. And making sure the tranny fluid is topped of.

The gears do not actually grind when I shift, I just have to literally force it into 1st gear.

Were you able to get it to not be notchy when you put it into first on a cold day? I tried lengthening the rod 1.5 turns and driving around and at first it seemed to help and then the next day it was tuff to get into first gear again.

This is crazy I am experiencing the same thing with my twin disk as well. It has been in the car for a year now with only bout 3k miles on it.

I had recently gone to the 1/4 mile track and bam all the sudden it wont go into first and reverse without forcing it. And when first started it rocks the car forward and back while trying to put it into either first or reverse.

My buddy had this issue with his and he ended up needing new synchro's in the tranny amongst other things. I hope not uh!!!!

Dudical keep us informed , as I will as well If I find a solution for my situation

This is exactly what I have going on. Although I have not gone to the track recently.

I will not get a chance to work on my car until two weeks from now, so I'll let you know what happens then.

Second gear kinda always tends to grind after a certain mileage with these cars. It could be because of your mileage/wear and it could just be a coincidence that this is occurring after your clutch install.

Jimbobdaga - that is not the case. It is not a grinding 2nd gear but rather a super notchy 1st gear when not moving. This is totally related to the clutch not working properly and nothing to do with synchros.

^^^+1 as mine is behaving almost identical to dudical's , and the rest of my gears I can shift into just fine.

But when cold and at a stop very hard to get into 1st or reverse , and will actually rock the car forward or back in respective attempt to get into gear.

Is it just the clutch and if so to what extent??
