Evo IX spark plugs
Ive been running those denso plugs for a month now; i am extremely impressed of how smooth the idle is. I love them and recommend them but I'm still basically stock on pump w/o alky or meth. I got mines from ebay for about 50 bux.
The general rule is for every 100hp added 1 step colder. If your going to run stock heat range plugs stick with the NGK. IKH24 is one step colder, and my car had noticeable improvement over stock NGK's gapped .022 with the IKH24 gapped to .024.

I have a question.... I was swapping out my plugs w/ a buddy, and he asked me which plugs I had... I replied w/ "stock" ilrf7h (if I remember correctly) for an EVO IX, and he looked at the box, and said, these arent the right ones. He said that the box is supposed to be white, and the last 2 sets I got from the dealer were in a silver box... So my question is, do the stock irlf7h (*spell) come in more than 1 color box, and do I have the wrong ones in?
What color was the box when you guys ordered them?
I think hes trippin, but he knows much more than I do...
TIA

Boxes are silver for the same plugs when bought elsewhere.
ILFR7H is the correct number.
damn it. i my autoparts store keep giving me the wrong plugs. i took out the stock plugs and noticed the threaded part was WAY longer than the BPR8ES plugs that the damned store gave me.
f them.
f them.
Denso IKH22 or IKH24 (1 step colder) for Evo 9.
NGK ILFR7H is the OEM plug for the IX.
**edit. they recommended the BR8ES, but only had the BPR8ES in stock, so i took it as i needed to drive the car.
but now i know: the old plugs were RIGHT. the new ones (both sets) are wrong.
i ordered the Denso ikh24 from ebay. they will be here.....?
sucks. i've been tuning on the wrong plugs. anyway.. from what i can tell of this thread, plugs we can use are
-NGK ILFR7H (OEM plug), only gap posted was a .022
-NGK LFR7AIX .024, no gap listed
-denso ikh24 .026 OR .024 <- i see posts noting different gaps
-denso ikh22, no gap listed
-NGK DPR7EIX-9, no gap listed
-Nology # NOL-150-141-080, no gap listed.
is that about right?

The stock evo 9 spark plug gap is .020-.024 as per the manual. Anything above that and people usually have ignition mods. I got a SparkTech Non-CDI and have IKH24's at .028 with no problems.
You also have Denso IKH27 (2 steps colder)
The gap will depend on a bunch of factors. I ran ILFR7H at .024. Added meth and dropped down to .022 with IKH24, added Spark Tech and went up to .028. Figure out what works on your car, if you run a plug at .024 and it doesn't misfire or show signs of ignition problems then leave it. If it misfires, gap it down another .002 or something and try again.
Here's another thread that's been around for a while pertaining to Evo 9 plugs.
