I would say after I added my catback I did notice sooner turbo spool. I will have to take a good look at it to see where I hit full boost. I just added a boost gauge on the steering column. I had the factory setup before.

WooooHoooooo!!!!! Must be some kind of new record. I made it to 8000 miles and guess what? Yep, my clutch started slipping today. Just got back from a 330 mile round trip and the clutch was absolutely fine then halfway to my destination it hits me. Clutch slips in 5th gear. Make it back and now it barely has enough left to take off. This SUCKS!!!! Oh well going to Satan tomorrow to address it. I can kind of guess what they will tell me, but I will try anyway. I'll keep you guys posted.

Yeah that would be the biggest one. Think I will pull that mbc today. Anyone have any picks of the stock solenoid setup. I don't remeber which hose off of the solenoid goes to the wastegate. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

ACTman, I had sent you my Evo VIII clutch for testing. The understanding was that you would have the clutch to test, then would resurface the flywheel and send the assembly back to me.

I have not heard anything since, and it has been a month now. I would like to have the clutch back, as I have learned that Mitsubishi is voiding the drivetrain warranties of anyone with an aftermarket clutch. I need the stock one to replace the Exedy I have installed in the event of any major drivetrain problems requiring warranty repair. I have PM'd you as well with no reply as yet.

2Cool,
I am sorry for the delay. I didn't think there was any rush since you have another clutch in the car. I went on vacation and then it kind of fell through the cracks I guess. I was hoping it was done while I was gone. I will take care of it right away.

I didn't get the PM. It may not be set up for it right now. E-mail works best for me.
Edit: I figured it out. I see the messages. PM works different from another forum I use.

ok guys im in iraq i have driven my evo for 3 day total in ft drum ny it had 4000 miles on it at that time cuz i let my dad drive it to keep the engine cleaned out and the brakes from rusting with all the rain back home in nh, half thes posts are from guys who havent even passed the breakin point yet and they are claiming NO PROBLEMS YET.... WELL DURRR come on now if you beat your evo expect 10 to 15k moderatly agressive driving id say 30 to 35k witch is still very low im looking at about 25 to 30 k out of mine the way i drive. my last car was a 95 gsx and i got 40k on the stock clutch before the car got fliped. that car was not babied. i hope i dont have to do a clutch too soon its expensive. does anybody know how this clutch differs from the evo vii? someone might want to look into that and see it the 7 had this problem dont you think. in the mean time enjoy your evo i have 4 more months till i can drive mine again. be safe

You will definitely know it if it happens. I had about 10 launches on my car in which I lauched over 5000 rpms. Lets say if you are in 3rd at 3000 rpms and you floor it, then you notice it suddenly slip to 3500 once boost builds up. It won't be a graudual rev like normal but it will slip to 3500 and stay there not moving untill the car catches up to it. The biggest thing I noticed on mine is that if I was at 4000 rpms and floored it, it would instantly slip to 5000 rpms and ride there for like a sec. Mine had just started to slip at 7800 miles. I am at 8200 miles now.

And the momment this happens you want to let off the gas and then be very easy on the throttle untill you can replace it. I have over 12K with mine and it has not slip yet either, but the point at which it engages has crept further and further up the pedal over time.
At a stand still, flat surface, idle RPM's, I could hear the clutch starting to engage at about half the pedal travel, but it would not actually start to fully engage/move until 3/4 or more of the way out.
For what ever reason the after market clutch line brought the hard engagement point down to where you could just hear it engage before, and it is so much more positive feeling. I am curious to see how this line will work on a fresh clutch.
My car has had a harder life than most, although I only smoked the clutch with hard launches 4-5 times. I am pretty sure my disk is well worn, we will see how long it lasts.

Yeah I was definitely taking it easy once I noticed that it was slipping. I am hoping that I don't have to get another flywheel. I plan to use the oem one with the new setup. I also noticed my pedal engagement slowly creeping foward.

I've been researching this pretty extensively this week. I bought my Evo on Saturday, and already have 500 miles on it. I've talked to a few vendors of aftermarket clutches and heard a lot of different things. One reputable vendor said that the disk material is different, and will burn away way too easily, but not that there is any design flaw. They recommend changiung to a different disc, but keeping the OE pressure plate. The cost for the new disc is like $200. Any feedback or thoughts on this?

I'd hate to go into the car so early, but I want the clutch to last. So far, zero hard starts. Until the issue is resolved, there is no way I'm drag racing this car.

check out the "Clutch Fix" thread. From what i have heard the stock clutch/pressure plate are fine, ACTman says the clutch is high grade material and should not be the problem. The stock pressure plate is a lil weaker than the evo 7 but is still well with in operating measures.

The material is different from what? It is the same material used on many Japanese higher-end vehicles such as TT RX7, 300ZXTT, WRX, 3000GT, etc. I am not saying that there is nothing better, but the material is not the main problem.
