Mine is at 10,000 and the slipping is getting worse...one thing I have noticed is my clutch is biting at the top of the pedal travel...this symptom suggests to me that it is wear of the clutch disc causing this failiure because if it is poor clamping by the pressure plate the clutch pedal would bite at the same level as it did when the car was new...any thoughts

Does it make sense for a tranny leak to cause all of my tranny fluid to leak out and cause my clutch to burn out and to ruin my tranny? This is what Mitsu told me. But the replaced both under warranty. If this is true then i would appreciate an explanation!
The most logical explanation is leak at the input shaft seal. This would leak a considerable about of fluid directly into the bellhousing and all over the clutch. It's not easy to get a clutch disk clean after an event like that and not worth trying because the car is already apart.

No it would be the whole thing if it was damaged internally. Generally you wouldn't replace all the internals and keep the case. They probably got an entire box from Mitsu.

How could you tell it was the same trans?
The replacement is not neccessarily new, it is usually a factory reman. They should look the same basically.

I personally think there's a lot of people out there who just don't know how to drive manual transmission properly. especially if you are having problems this early in the game. I mean, let's face it. we all know the Evo is quick and so do most other people who pull up beside you. so it doesn't make much sense to me that a lot of you seem to have to prove it every time that happens. that's the bottom line really on why you are burning out your clutches. drive it like a sensible human being and maybe have your occasional break from reality and you won't have too many problems. there's a big difference though in driving your car hard and driving it like an idiot. driving hard won't burn out your clutch, but driving like an idiot and drag racing every stupid ******* that pulls up next to you will burn it out. IT'S THAT SIMPLE! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

I don't know if that was directed at me, but all I have done is baby the thing and I have not raced anyone. I do not street race.
I haven't even taken it to the track to see what it runs because I don't want to launch it. I am just not ready to put a clutch in this early on.
Also, I think I know how to drive a clutch since I probably have more miles under my belt then most since I worked in a dealership as a technician and have driven a wide variety of cars and driven manuals 5 days a week for 9 years. Not to mention the number of automatic and manual transmissions I have rebuilt and the the number of clutches I have replaced.
I agree that some people may not know how to drive a manual but you should paint with such a broad brush. The fact remains that there is still an issue here. When you get some miles on your car we'll see how the clutch is.

You don't drive an evo do you though?? Not trying to start a flame war man, but with this many people having problems with early clutch failure it aint just the drivers.

To ACT:

I love ACT clutches.... Had one in my rx7 turbo and my turbo miata and I'll have one in my evo if the evo clutch dies an early death or can't keep up with the mods that are comming. Thank you soo much for getting involved and trying to help out the community. Please hurry and get a disk and plate out for the evo VIII. You just can't beat an ACT setup for daily driven hot rods that aren't to wild.

bri'sevo, a lightened flywheel will effect your classing, as in you could not run stock with it, as it provides an advantage. A clutch should not though, much the same as you can go to race brake pads, shocks, etc.

And its appropriate for modified car owners to respond, as most people plan to do something to improve their car, and should be aware of the risks.

I have to come to LuvEvolutions aid on this one, so what if he drives a evolution,he brought up a good point,Most people with car drive like ****ing idiots, not to say all but alot of people say they baby there car,and clearly do otherwise.point being there is 3500 evolutions in the U.S right now,and what! 20 cars I have heard of have problems, even if they do, cars are made by man,and man makes mistakes. They fact s you bought a performance car,it will not be perfect, tuck you skirt and suck it up,OTHER WISE,leave that car for someone who will apreciate it
