Once Again......avoid Valero Gas Stations......they Are Robbing Us.

OK, so I am tuning yet another car on our dyno. The car runs fine has a bunch of our parts on it and should easily be able to make 350 whp on 93 octane. The fact is I can't run over 20 psi and the car is knocking its *** off. I have a feeling since the car is here from Chicago that it was driven here on the Turnpike and the owner got gas at Valero. Sure enough a phone call confirms it.

FOR THE 100TH TIME DO NOT BUY GAS AT VALERO, THE GAS IS ABSOLUTELY A RIP OFF AND IS NOT THE ADVERTISED OCTANE. I WILL PUT MONEY AND MY REPUTATION ON IT. THE FUEL IS TRASH.

It makes for a horrible pain the *** for us. If you come here do NOT put that crap in your tank. This is probably atleast 10 cars I have had to tune on that overpriced **** and every single car has had horrible knock counts.

Do everyone a favor, skip the gas stations all together, maybe they will close up, they are a rip off.

There should be some weights and standards commitee out there that you could report them to if it's not in fact 93 octane.

As a service to all of us that are picky about our cars... i think a little scientific test is necessary.

David, since you have the tools to do it... is there any way you could do a good old test of the different brands?

Set up a car that is tuned aggressively on 93 (whatever you use)
Then drain the tank and test it on Sunoco, Marathon, BP, Shell, Valero, Speedway 92, Citgo, Sheetz, Circle K, GetGo, and others... i can't think of them right now..

Put up results of knock, dyno sheets, temps, and whatever else would be affected.

(you might be able to get a nice thank you gift *-cough-* free fuel *-cough-* from the best rated company with the help of a good press release....)

Just a suggestion..

Sunoco, BP and Shell have proven time and time again to be good quality fuel and I think you are getting what the pump says you are getting.

The weights and measures do NOT check for octane. As a matter of fact there is no Federal or State agencies that check for octane. They check to make sure you are getting 1 gallon if you pay for a gallon and they also check for contaminents in the fuel. Sad for us, there is nobody checking the octane ratings.

Doing a test between all the different fuels is not something I want to do. It would depend on the crooked ***** who owns the gas station anyway and what he is actually putting in the tank.

I can tell you our local Sunoco and Shell both sell kick *** gasoline.

Actually, its the distributor of the gasoline that's prob the crook, the owner of the gas station really has no say in that area...

Shell FTW!

If you dont have Sunoco or BP, then Shell Vpower is the best bet. Every town has a shell.

I was under the impression that they only have two types of gas, high octane and low octane. The Mid grade is a mixture of the two. That being said, if you are getting less than 93 at the pump and paying for 93 it is because the fuel is either being mixed with lesser than 93 or it is not in fact 93 from the truck.
