Ported, Coated exhaust manifold - Beads of melted Metal??

I have never seen this before, well on the outside of an engine anyway. Has anyone ever seen this happen before? The manifold was lightly ported by PPI and coated by Swaintech.

Here's what I know. Melted beads are not magnetic but are coming out of the manifold. Heatshield looks toasty on outboard cylinders. Pulled plugs and found no sign of the melted beads in the cylinder.

EGTs peak at 1600F°, Boost at 1.5 Bar. Mid 11 afr at WOT, 91 octane.

This has got me concerned. Any ideas??

That is nothing to be concerned with. That is just the coating, I have seen it happen before. You can easily brush them off if you desire.

Awesome. Thanks for the info everyone. I assume this happens even if I didn't paint over the ceramic?

Wayne, any input to the source of these?

Hey I saw the manifold and I thought you must have been told wrong information about the manifold. Then you said it was painted. I know it OT but brand of paint did you use for the manifold? I have to ask because it looks good.

Its not paint. Its a swain coating and reduces heat dramatically

I think he said it was painted. Look at my last post and look at the quote.

Swain tech's coating actually uses metal flakes to help trap heat, just looks like some of them are melting off.

To clarify, the manifold is swaintech coated - which was a very light gray. I prefer the stock look, so I picked up a rattle-can of the high-temp Ceramic black at PepBoys. Think it's good for 1200°. Once heated, it'll cure to a very durable finish. Did the same process to my O2 housing and downpipe.

I wonder what kind of metal Swaintech uses. It's melting point will help me determine how hot the manifold can get.

Mine looks the same (Swaintech also), at least it has since I took it out on the road course.

Sure A more technical answer would be that the Swain white lightning coating is a multi layer coating applied in various stages. The little "pellets" you see are the lower melting point alloys coming out of the coating. It does not mean you have "over heated" the coating though by any means.
