i will say that i noticed a different sound from my RMR setup. BUT the sound went away after a day or so. Were you hard on the clutch from the day you put it in? I drove pretty ginger on the clutch load until about 2 days then i started getting more aggressive with it, to let it sit in. So far, i beat the thing, and it's done well. I have DPG gears in for 1st and 2nd but that shouldn't make a difference.

I checked on the RMR disc photo from Lancershop. I am familiar with the design. The pucks will hold about 30% more power than stock with a tradeoff in engagement comfort (chatter). The reason for the noise is the inadequate dampening of the center section. The springs have limited amount of travel and because of the harsh torsional vibration from a 4 cyl. turbo engine, you get transmission noises. Usually this is just a matter of noise and won't harm anything.

As of right now, I am still waiting for a new clutch (not RMR). Still have this 6 puck in the car, and it's horrible. The noise is so bad. Makes you think the whole car is going to break apart. I was told by others that 6 puck clutches, especially with ceramic pads, will make loud noises in AWD cars. This CAN'T be normal. I can't see how RMR can sell a clutch that would make a noise like this.

I don't think RMR wants to give me a refund/labor reimbursement or whatever on this. What should I do?

You guys really need to wait if you can and go with the ACT (advanced clutch technologies) clutch, it is absoultely wonderful. Higher clamping STOCK style pressure plate (2950 ft lbs.), factory clutch disc and tob. Engages just like stock, no chatter, no noise, slight increase in pedal pressure. I'll bet $1000 against anyone right now that this will be the clutch of choice very shortly in the EVO community. I've had ACT clutches in all my dsms previously, and have had 0 problems with them. Worth the short wait guys, believe me.

Oh yeah, look for a price range (I'm guessing here) somewhere in the $500 or less range, that's for a complete clutch kit (psi plate, disc, tob, pilot tool).

Sounds like we're heading in the right direction - "sport" or slighty higher clamping load stock PP with a stock disk. That's always worked best for me when using a car on the street. My exp. with puck'd clutchs was never good, lots of chatter, you look like a dork because you buck your car all the time - unless you're doing a drag launch, and noisy. If the reports of RMR are coming out bad it reminds of my early dealings with Steve Millen and his company...I bagged on them for years in the SR20DE world because of all their bull****. Mixed face'd clutches also work well, like a kevlar mix on one side and pucks on the other...if you must go that route for the street.

Well so far so good with my stock clutch I have done several launches that left the awful smelly clutch on fire smell, I figure by early next year I will be in for a new clutch but I must admit I am horrified with this whole clutch thing going on. Forget RMR they are out excedy twin disc sounds good but lotza of $$ and finally my question not only is a clutch kit expensive, but how much is it to intall? and who to trust? I saw the post with the guy in Jersey installing his kit it seems the front end is completely taken apart. Big labor hours I assume. Is this so could you guys post a range of labor for an install thanks.

personally i'm waiting for ACT to release their upgrade...

they seem to love the stock disc and just think the pressure plate needs upgrading..

i like that idea!...

i've always liked ACT!
