I did notice about about 250rpm quicker spoolup as showed in my datalogs also. Its correlated into more power but for repeated rounds around a track I am not sure.

Alot of people have seen big HP increases on the dyno. I know razorlab picked up like 20hp because he was able to run more boost with the open filter.

On my car I saw gains on the dyno with an open hood. But at the track my performance was better while force feeding cold air into a sealed box from a high pressure air source on the nose of the car. It only makes sense that cramming cold air into the airbox at 100mph is better than having a filter sitting behind a hot radiator in a heat soaked engine bay.

As for spool I never noticed a difference. On my car the boost hits so violently and so fast that I never bother to check spool.

+1

I'm noticing that too. Not too happy about it but at least performance won't be affected.

I thought I installed mine wrong but it looks the same. I haven't heard any noise from it yet. I'm wondering about rust issues from the two metals rubbing.

I apologize. I thought I already replied.

As the instructions state ALL of those brass colored brackets can be removed as they no longer serve a purpose. I havent seen the kit installed with those in place so I dont know if thats having an affect on the issue you're seeing.

They're not. The filter isn't connected to anything in brass trim or touching anything in brass trim.

I'm not sure what power level you need to see gains in real life but at 350whp the open element filter is vaporware. My intake temps were 50* higher at the tree and 30* higher at the back end.

Here's a pic of the retired filter:
Jeff...sorry to bump your post for 2007 but I took your advice and searched under "99 eclipse filter" on eBay. The search yielded lots of results but everything included both the cone filter and a MAF adapter plate. It looks like a pretty standard kit. I think the issues people are having with the new gray style filter are a result of the MAF adapter. The old red style cleared the ACD tank because it bolted DIRECTLY to the MAF...no adapter. Just an FYI for anybody out there shopping for an open air filter.

Jarod...I don't want beat this issue to death so this will be my last post on the subject. That being said, it's not me or my car that are causing the poor fit on the new design of your air filter. It's the design. For one it's longer in length than the old design. Secondly there's a MAF adapter plater that sits between the filter and MAF. Between those two changes you're looking at another 3-5 inches. Last week I bought a used Buschur air filter from a member on here...the old design...and it fits like a glove. There's no more rubbing against the ACD tank and the retaining bracket actually lines up like it was designed for this kit. It's your decision to make as a vendor, but the new filter design you're selling for $80 does not fit. Here are the pictures to prove it...

Relax Steiner, it's ok that it hits slightly, I have the new design on my 9 with ACD and managed to fit it inside my stock box (after dremeling the crap out of it of course). Yeah it rests slightly on the brass or black brackets below but I just ziptied a piece of rubber on the bracket so the filter doesn't rub on the metal bracket. If Buschur supplied a bracket then use it otherwise fabricate your own or do what I did.
