Can u safetly run a 50 shot on an evo 8? I ran a 75 shot safetly on my 03 gts celica and it had a really high compression ratio something like 11:1. Has anyone done it yet? Also I herd the evo comes with synthetic oil and it would be better for it if i put regular break in oil for the first 500 miles. Thanks for any help

 

Yes, it is considered relatively safe to run a 50 shot.
But naturally you do it at your own risk.

There is no need to run conventional oil for the first 500 miles and it also void your warranty. The Mobil1 significantly handles the higher temperatures of the turbo better and you are far better off not changing it. The conventional oil break in is a myth and the rings will still seat just fine on synthetic oil.

 

yeah, using conventional oil will void warranty. They will check the oil under a microscope at the dealership to confirm it to be Mobil 1, yeah that's it . There is no way for a technician to verify the oil, no way. By the way, no turbo Japanese car has ever come filled with synthetic oil until now. So no there is nothing wrong with breaking in your engine with regular oil, it actually does give it a better seal, but to each its own.

 

Keep in mind it is a violation of the Sherman Anti-Trust Act for Mitsubishi to actually require you to use Mobil's Synthetic Oil. The can tell you to use a sythetic oil with detergents or a certain weight. They can also demand that cars not serviced by Mitsu must have receipts documenting the oil changes and oil type prior to performing warrantable items.

However, if there is a warranty item that they challenge, they must by law accept the burden of proof to provide evidence that not using Sythetic Oil caused the failure. (Harris Act Sec 7 Pt 2 & 3)

I found this out when Audi wanted to void my warranty because of a Cold Air Intake!!!

Won that case too.

What's with that!?! Nothing wrong with using any tool avail to increase HP if you want to....that's like saying "turbos are for toddlers". What crap.

As for the synthetic vs dinosaur break in...I have read a LOT on this topic from a lot of people who seemed to know a lot (I have a degree in chemistry and did research in phase dynamics for a while, so I have a small amount of applicable background)...Really, it appears to be a wash and probably doesn't have any benefit to break in with dino oil instead of synthetic. You will find no end to the people who believe as they've been told (that seems to apply to all areas of life), but as for actual evidence...there is none that I've seen. Believe me...you can pursue this question 'till the end of time and you'll hear a lot of passionate hollering...I wasted lots of time trying to find out the "answer"...the engineers tend to say it's a very staunchly supported myth...breaking in with synth is just as good. Reason for not putting dino in the Evo: Coking in the turbo...a good reason to avoid it (even if you don't know what it is).

As far as the rest of the time running the car, there is absolutely nothing better than Mobil 1 synthetic.
