Dirt getting up to the lifters is what causes tick. Unless Amsoil changes the combustion process somehow Amsoil will get as dirty as any other oil in 5000 miles.

Sounds like lifters for sure. I wouldn't worry at all.

If the valve tick gets loud enough, and this experience comes from the DSM world, the knock sensor picks up the sound and the ECU pulls timing. When I say loud enough I mean so loud you can hear the ticking clearly with the windows up. A car wth timing pulled makes lots of turbo noise but has no go.

I went from Amsoil Extreme 10w30 (or "turbo formulation" as it used to be called - whatever that meant ) to Eneos 0w50 when I did my cam swap (properly bled the lifters) and it started tapping. I'm really thinking it's the lighter oil. I'm going back to Amsoil - great stuff.

I always read about people running 10w30. I'm 99% sure that for the temperatures around albany this time of year you should be running 5w30 according to the manual.

I was under the hood this morning after start up and there was a good bit of ticking but nothing that sounded abnormal.
