When choosing your parts how do you decide?

So when I chose my camshafts for the my IX it was between HKS and Cosworth. I searched the forum for a bit but beyond that I came to the conclusion that Cosworth builds F1 motors and HKS does not.

LOL, yes I know that's a really bad way of justifying buying car parts but after I ordered them the shop that did the install agreed as well . Even though I ended up tossing the Cosworth 272 exhaust camshaft and picking up an HKS 280 one. As per shop recommendation.

How do you choose your parts if you get to a point where it's either one or the other, but neither seem to be better than the other.

i think the best is to find your happy median in Price, Performance, and Quality.
Do as much research as you feel needed to ensure your first purchase of the a certain product will be the best. If I am looking at a performance product I was look for general quality reviews first then I look into how the product performs. In my opinion it is best to look at different dyno charts from different tuners in which the cars they tune had the same parts. Then you can average a basis of performance on the product. That's my 2cents.....

I write the names on bullets and head out to a public place. Whichever hits a person, I dig the bullet out and theres my part. I am an awful shot, so it makes it difficult to choose.

Seriously? I choose the part that seemingly has the best engineering, price, performance and looks last.....

I like to keep things unified, so I try to stick to as many like manufacturers as possible, which generally leads to parts that work together.

But mostly? Price dictates where Im going. I never buy something that is so overpriced its unreasonable for the gains (i.e., HKS Turbo kits etc) when I could get the same (Buschur Racing, AMS) for half the price and more performance.

Experience, my own and others has a LOT to do with my selections.....

I do a **** ton of research, and then more. I make threads when im really trying to find my answer. I am looking for a new turbo upgrade at this time, & ive made probably 5 threads about it so far, and searched for hours and days. Still havent made my decision. The key to finding your answers, is vodka. Drink a ton, then your decision making will be made easy.

Just search to find what companies and products are proven and what exactly are not. You can't go wrong with Buschur, AMS, ETS, Full-Race, etc. Just my 2 cents.

Research usually helps....LOTS OF IT!! Also, some of the vendors on here are also tuners and they also provide some good insight as what to do. Everyone's opinions may not be valid but will get you different points of views.

For cams...GSC/Cossies/Jun and i have heard some things about Revolver cams but not much...

I tell my wife a really want a part....she ask what and how much, so I show her an expensive brand....she says no. I wait a bit and say I found a great deal on a version similar....she says yes. Usually it is what i wanted to begin with. Like I was the GSC s1's...so i will show her the HKS or another brand that is much more...
