works throttle body shaft seals
i am about to install the works throttle body shaft seals and in the instructions they say to use a seal insertion tool. i dont mind having to buy one for a proper installation. can anyone tell me the exact size i need to buy, or a specific tool for the job? or should i just buy the machevo seals because they dont require "special tools"?
i dont know if a store-available tool exist.
i made mine on a lathe, basically imagine a big drift / punch & make the guide part the same diameter as the throttle shaft & ~1.5" long to be your guide & the part that pushes on the seal, make that ~+ 0.500 larger than the diameter of the seal....this will only push the seal flush with the body..
i made the pushing part a "step" & it sticks out about +0.030, which is the ~.010 smaller than the od of the seal, then i have the large section (+0.500 larger odthan the seal) to hit against the tb housing to know when the seal is sent home.
hopefully this helps out abit.

I've never checked the throttle body shaft for leaks, but is this a big deal? I mean a little leakage around the shaft isn't going to affect a/f's that much. Are you guys being **** (I mean that in a nice way!) or should I be a lil less carefree about it?
These will let quite a bit leak under boost... Just from these leaking, I cant hold 15 psi under a boost leak test for more than a second. Put that in terms under boost and load, it might cause for a slower car. No boost leak should be left un-fixed.
The insertion tool is called "A Right Size Socket", which you should have a bunch in your garage. Use a small amount of lube on the seal, put it in, put the socket on it and use a small hammer to get'er in.
And throttle shaft seals are prone to start leaking at some point on evos, and WORKS product is the best. I have those in too.

not to sure what size socket i used. i started off with a socket just slightly bigger than the new seal. after i got it tapped in level with the t/b opening i used a socket the exact same size as the seal to finish tapping it into place
