Engine/Tranny Removal???
Engine/Tranny Removal???
Can it be done from the top of the car? With the T-case removed, it still looks like you need another 1-2" of clearance between the side frame rails to pull the assembly upwards, or a severe angle to get it out. Either the accessory belt pulleys are going to hit, or the transmission will. Before I try, can it be done this way, or do I need to remove the transmission first?
It looks like it would drop straight out the bottom easily, but I don't have a lift

You can unbolt the transfer case, and then pull the transmission out. That will give you more then enough room to remove the whole engine assembly out in one piece. Make sure the pulleys or anything else is free and clear of the frame before removing and while you are pulling it out, have some people check for you and push the engine away from anything to avoid contact. DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS ALONE, you will hurt yourself or worse, damage the car!!!

lol, I won't hurt myself. I've had the tranny out before, on my back with the tranny on my chest trying to stab the input shaft. Not fun, but relatively safe. The block will be a cakewalk from there. Was just hoping to pull the whole assembly out at once, and go from there. It's the rear motor mount I don't want to jack with, that's a **** to reach the bolts to get it off.
I'd drop it straight out the bottom if I had the clearance. Now that looks easy by comparison on a lift.....

if you jack the car up way high and have a load leveler then you could pull the whole engine + tranny out as one assembly. But if you are going to want to jack it up that high why not just take it out through the bottom. Its much easier IMO and thats the way I did mine. good luck

I just pulled my engine and trans out the top but the car was wrecked and didn't take to much care in doing it, had to let the trans go down while the engine went up. I would not reccomend this unless you do not care to much about the car. I am going to try johnboy1065 way going back in. good luck
