Compressor surge

My buddy has a 1995 eagle talon with a DSM FP3065. And at WOT he gets compressor surge. Is it possible that the compressor wheel is loose? Boost leak? What can cause this?

can't be the BOV because it only happens at WOT. And the car does not have a MAS because its running a standalone.

If you had a high flowing cylinder head is it possible to cause compressor surge if the hotside of the turbo is to small?

My Evo 9 is doing that same thing right now, and I am still trying to find out what the problem is.

I think the turbo might need replacement.

My dad's 1995 GSX does the same thing. He had a Turbonetics BOV, and it did nothing but surge, so he replaced in with a new GReddy (uses the same flange) and it worked for a bit, but it started to surge again. Now it'll work maybe 5% of the time. You go parital boost and shift, it'll work, you go partial boost in the next gear and it'll surge.

It leads me to believe it's not the BOV's fault do to it working on occasion. I'd think if the BOV was roken, which I doubt because it's brand new, it would surge ALL the time. I just don't get it. It surges REAL bad at WOT.

If the turbo needed replacement would it do this all the time? He has the stiff spring in his Race HKS BOV. It did not do this when he was running 30psi, it started happening when he turned it down to 15psi

my 2 cents

Sounds like flutter from the BOV to me. The valve sounds like it needs to be loosened.

It did not leak at 30psi. Why would it leak at half that?
