Hey guys, so I got my car running again and I accidently stripped 3 of the 6 bolts that hold the coil packs down. 2 bolts on one of the packs, and then another one on the other coil pack....So one of my good friends who has an evo, told me that he heard that if you strip the holes that the coil packs bolt down to, your car is going to misfire and not run right because it uses those bolts to securely fasten down the coil packs and also as a ground. Is that true... that the bolts are grounding points? Mine don't wanna tighten now all the way down and both coil packs aren't flush with the valve cover holes, and I got a CEL code also, random multiple cylinder misfire. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks guys!
Get a tap set. Make new threads. No worries.

The valve cover is magnesium, so I heard you can't tap and make new threads. Is that true? Basically, I wanna know if it's true that the bolts that hold down the coil packs are used as grounding points, and do they need to be tightened all the way down, or is it fine to have a couple stripped, as long as it seats the coil packs down?
Thanks
Thanks
I can't imagine how a bolt threaded into the magnesium valve cover is going to help ground the plug, when it's already screwed directly into the aluminum head. But I've been wrong before. Now if the tip of the plug isn't in good contact with the plug wire (since it's not being held in place firmly due to the stripped bolt holes), that could be a definite problem.
Like others have suggested, your best option is to helicoil the stripped threads, or buy a new valve cover.
