Misfire

One day, I turned my car on before work. I turned it on and then went to get dressed for work and when I came back to my car it was completely missfiring. I popped my hood while my car was running to check my coil packs and i would remove the electric wires that plug into the coils to see if it made a difference and to see if the coil was ok. Coil #1 did not make a difference when I unplugged it, the other ones did. So i switched coil #1 and #2 to see if it was just the coil. Now when i unplugged the first one, it still did not make a difference. But when i unplugged the 2nd one which was the first before i changed it, did make a difference. So i figured it wasn't to my coil packs. What could this be?? Please help.

Bad plug wire?

Check the inside of each plug boot where it mates up with the spark plug....add dielectric grease too in all boots.

I know this thing obviously doesnt have a distributer but how can you just switch 1 and 2 coil plugs? they fire at different times.

Because if he switched the coil around and the misfire followed he knows that it's the coil. Since the issue didn't follow with the coil pack he now knows it's not the coil. Now he needs the wiring diagram for the ignition and follow the wires for the number one cylinder.

Also did you check for any codes? Did you check the gap on the #1 spark plug?

bad plug or bad tune or both
do you have any sort of aftermarket:
injectors? if so, check clips
tacho/anything that reads RPM?: if so, check wire 4 on ECU commonly tapped for RPM but it really a fuel injector lead

i am running lean, I'm waiting for a downpipe to come in before i retune it. I ordered spark plugs from mitsubishi a week ago and they came in today. Took my old ones out, two of them were completely destroyed replaced them, and my issue was fixed. Thank god it was something so simple, I definitely was thinking it was something way more complicated.

if you're running lean, you better be limping around if you're driving it at all, or your just asking for a blown motor brother

but yeah, usually the simplest answer is the correct one. Evo's aren't mechanically that complicated...spark and fuel. The ECU, however, yeah no not touching that that's why I pay baka the big bucks

the tips weren't completely destroyed but they were pretty bad. I'm at work and I have my old ones sitting at home. I'll take a picture and post them when I get the chance.

Save the plugs and show them to the tuner.
Drive verrry gently until it is checked out and re-tuned.

^would you bet your engine on it?

Yes, I have had a bad plug (or wire) new that failed. Not impossible. But...
